This week in Pokemon Go, things are starting to get a bit spookier leading up to Halloween. However, the official Halloween event doesn’t start until next week. You’ll also have the chance to celebrate Niantic’s birthday with a little goodie bag, but don’t forget to wrap up some of those past events ending soon.
For now, you’ll be able to start prepping for the haunting season with Duskull Community Day, a Ghost-type Raid Hour, and more.
Ending Soon
There are no major events ending this week, but a few will wrap up next week. Here’s what’s ending soon:
- October 10: Secrets of the Jungle
- After the event ends, you will not be able to access the Special Research for Zarude if you haven’t already. If you have, it’s available to you forever.
- October 11: The GBL switches from the Master League, Master League Classic, and Little Jungle Cup to the Great League and Halloween Cup
- October 12: Tier 5 Raids switch from Genesect (Douse Drive) to Giratina (Altered Form)
- October 15: Meowth balloons with Jessie and James finish their appearance (for now)
- After the event ends, you will not be able to access the Special Research for Zarude if you haven’t already. If you have, it’s available to you forever.

The Secrets of the Jungle Event Continues
This event, meant to promote the new Pokemon movie, started last week and will continue through this week to the 10th. As part of, Pokemon related to the movie will be spawning.
Here are the boosted spawns:
- Roggenrola
- Pikachu (Explorer Costume)
- Caterpie
- Dwebble
- Oddish
- Diglett
- Hoothoot
- Larvitar
- Combee
- Pidove
- Drilbur
- Cottonee
You still have time for photobomb encounters with Team Rocket when you take a snapshot too, which will lead to a chance to catch a Meowth or a Wobbuffett (up to five times per day). There’s also event-themed Raid bosses (outlined below), Zarude Special Research, themed Field Research, and new avatar items.
Don’t forget: The Search For Zarude Special Research must be activated during the event window. If you do not obtain it during this time, you won’t be able to access it. If you do activate it in time, you have as long as you want to finish it.
Spotlight Hour/Raid Hour
There’s a coincidental purple theme to this week’s Spotlight Hour and Raid Hour events.
Spotlight Hour: On Tuesday, October 5 from 6pm to 7pm local time, Drifloon will be spawning in droves. As a bonus, you’ll receive double XP for evolving Pokemon during the event window.
Raid Hour: This week’s Raid Hour will feature Genesect with its Douse Drive. From 6pm to 7pm local time on October 6, most gyms will have a Tier 5 Raid with Genesect as the boss. As a Bug/Steel-type, Genesect has a double-weakness to Fire-type moves. Good counters include the Mega Charizard twins, Blaziken, Darmanitan, and Reshiram.
Niantic’s Birthday 2021
On October 6, there’ll be a short celebration of Niantic’s birthday. From 11am to 5pm, you can log in to the game to grab a bundle from the in-game shop. Niantic hasn’t said what will be in the bundle or if there is anything else going on as part of the event.
Duskull Community Day
On Saturday, October 9, from 11am to 5pm, Duskull Community Day will take place. Duskull will be spawning, and by evolving it up to its final form, Dusknoir, it will learn the event-exclusive move Shadow Ball. You can evolve for the move up to two hours after the event window, as well.
There will be a Special Research ticket available for $1 USD, and event-exclusive Timed Research that will reward Sinnoh Stones.
During the event, there will be a triple catch Stardust bonus in effect.

Who’s in Raids?
All this week, the Raid bosses will be those spawning as part of the Secrets of the Jungle event, as well as the previously-announced Genesect (Douse Drive) and Mega Gengar. Here’s a complete list of who you can expect:
