It’s never a dull week when it comes to streaming news. This week has seen some big-name esports signings, while other streamers have decided to take things outside. Perhaps most notably, it looks like music-related DMCA takedowns on Twitch might finally be behind us… Might.

TimTheTatman Signs With Complexity Gaming

Streamer TimTheTatman recently switched from Twitch to YouTube as his preferred streaming platform. However, his business dealings didn’t end there given that he also signed for Complexity Gaming, a subsidiary of GameSquare Esports. His new role will entail debuting new merchandise, driving community-focused campaigns, and collaborating with other streamers and esports pros.

“Joining the Complexity team has been an amazing journey,” TimTheTatman said. “I’ve followed Complexity’s success and I am impressed with their commitment to winning in top-tier esports and the loyalty of their fans.”

Big Name Record Signing For Excel

Excel has completed a big money move for Tom Leese, the world number one ranked FIFA pro. Leese’s former club, Hashtag United, received a bid from Excel that ranged between £50,000-£100,000, making it the first six-figure signing of its kind. Leese’s career highlights include representing England in pro FIFA tournaments and winning the 2020 ePremier League with Watford.

“I am proud to be joining the Excel team as their first-ever professional FIFA signing,” said Leese. “When Excel first approached me, the idea of working together definitely caught my attention. The drive within the Excel team to constantly improve and the commitment to jumping straight into the competitive FIFA space really excites me.”

Twitch And Music Publishers Come To An Agreement Over DMCA Takedowns

Over the last few years, content creators have constantly been plagued by DMCA takedowns on Twitch thanks to music copyright issues. A number of workarounds have been implemented on occasion, although none have made much of a difference. Recently, however, the streaming platform and the National Music Publishers’ Association have come to an agreement over a new procedure. If a certain piece of content is flagged for music copyright issues, Twitch will now review the request and–if found valid–issue a warning to first-time offenders. While it’s not the most satisfactory result for streamers, it’s better than having your stream pulled down without notice.

Taking The Hobbits To Isengard For Charity

Uruk-hai have never run faster than that time they were being hunted by Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli. However, one streamer wants to beat the record set during the run from Amon Hen to Isengard. Calgary-based Twitch streamer Orc Run is known for taking part in marathons while wearing a complete suit of Uruk-hai armour. They recently ran a 10K marathon to raise money for The Alex, a non-profit organisation that provides health, social, and community care for the poor. $1,866 was raised for the charity as Orc Run completed the course in just 53 minutes. Rohan should be worried.

Streamers Take Things Outside

Streamers aren’t exactly known for their outdoor activities – well, maybe except Orc Run. Still, a group of popular streamers are set to participate in a game of kickball hosted by Ludwig. The roster includes the likes of xQc, Valkyrae, and 100 Thieves, and if fellow streamer Ninja’s complete lack of sports knowledge is anything to go by, it should be, er… interesting. There’s not much else that we know, except that the tournament will feature four teams of eight players each. As a means of finding out some more details, I just typed in “sport with eight players on each team” and got something called “korfball.” Again… interesting.
