Top 10 Glass Cannons in Pokemon

By definition, a glass cannon is any character in a video game that has great offensive power, but very poor on defense. They can really pack a punch, but taking hits probably isn’t their strongest suit.

In the wide world of Pokemon, there are plenty of pocket monsters who are best identified as glass cannons. Wwhile these ten Pokemon are exceptional on the offensive end, their defense may make some players wary.

10 Weavile

Top 10 Glass Cannons in Pokemon

Weavile is revered as one of the best physical attackers in Pokemon. It has a base attack of 120, which, paired with STAB moves such as Icicle Crash and Knock-Off, make it a fearsome foe. A base speed of 125 also allows the sharp claw Pokemon to outspeed its opposition at will.

Players who plan on using Weavile will have to be very mindful of the Pokemon’s unfortunate typing. Being a Dark/Ice-type Pokemon, Weavile has six different weaknesses, one of them being a double weakness to the Fighting-type. With a base stat of 65 for its physical defense, Weavile can go down to a physical Fighting-type move pretty easily.

9 Lucario

Top 10 Glass Cannons in Pokemon

Lucario is arguably the most popular Pokemon in Gen IV, and he is also one of the most fun to use. Its base physical and special attack are 110 and 115, respectively, and it also has a very massive movepool. Aura Sphere, Meteor Mash, Psychic, and Earthquake are just some of the moves Lucario can use, along with a respectable 90 base speed.

That being said, Lucario’s defenses aren’t the best. The aura Pokemon has a base stat of 70 for both defenses, and spamming Close Combat, which is the best physical attacking move for Lucario, lowers the defenses. Mega Evolving into Mega Lucario may help matters, raising the physical defense some, but not as much.

8 Gengar

Top 10 Glass Cannons in Pokemon

One of the more recognizable Ghost-type Pokemon, Gengar is a very useful special attacker. It has a base special attack of 130, along with a base speed of 110 to boot. It can use a variety of special moves such as Shadow Ball, Sludge Wave, and Focus Blast, not to mention a Levitate ability that nulls its Ground-type weakness.

No matter how many great moves Gengar can use, it still has a pretty susceptible defense. It has a base physical defense of 60, which can cause some problems when it comes to Dark-type physical moves such as Knock Off or Night Slash. A Mega Evolution into Mega Gengar can fix the Pokemon’s defensive woes while also making it even more of an effective special attacker.

7 Mega Beedrill

Top 10 Glass Cannons in Pokemon

Regular Beedrill is really nothing to be afraid of, but Mega Beedrill is an absolute force to be reckoned with. The poison bee Pokemon gets a major boost to its physical attack and speed, with its base attack and speed going from 90 and 75 to a blistering 150 and 140. Not only that, but it also gains a new ability, Adaptability, which doubles the effectiveness of STAB moves.

While Mega Evolution dramatically increases Mega Beedrill’s physical attack and speed, its defenses are pretty much left untouched. Its physical defense remains the same at 45. Mega Beedrill can easily wreak havoc with its Adaptability-boosted Fell Stinger, but one powerful physical move can bring the poison bee’s carnage to an end.

6 Zoroark

Top 10 Glass Cannons in Pokemon

Zoroark is a very cool Pokemon, a special attacker who has one of the best abilities around in Illusion. This ability can allow Zoroark to take on the form of the last Pokemon in a player’s party, which can lead to some fun mind games. Opponents might be befuddled by a Shuckle with a base speed of 110 using moves like Dark Pulse with a base 120 special attack power.

Even though it’s one of the cooler Pokemon to use, Zoroark is still very weak with a base stat of 60 for both of its defenses. While using Illusion, Zoroark can survive if it takes not very effective hits. Players who plan to use this Pokemon ought to make the most of the Illusion ability and play mind games with their opponent as much as possible until Zoroark faints.

5 Archeops

Top 10 Glass Cannons in Pokemon

With a base stat total of 567, Archeops has one of the highest totals among non-legendary Pokemon, second only to Slaking. It has a base attack of 140, with a plethora of awesome and reliable physical attack moves to boot. Plus, its 110 base speed isn’t too shabby, either.

However, that’s about all of the positives when it comes to Archeops. Beyond that, the first bird Pokemon has poor defenses, with his physical and special defenses having a base stat of 65. Its attack stats are halved when it hits below half health, thanks to its Defeatist ability. Archeops’ meager defenses and ability might give some players a bit of pause.

4 Salazzle

Top 10 Glass Cannons in Pokemon

Introduced in Generation VII, Salazzle is an effective special attacker with a unique Poison/Fire typing. It has access to special moves such as Fire Blast, Flamethrower, Sludge Bomb, and Dragon Pulse, along with a base special attack of 111. Its base 117 speed allows it to outspeed most Pokemon.

Yet, with all that speed, Salazzle has some poor defenses. Both its physical and special defenses have a base stat of 60. A base HP of 68 doesn’t help matters either, and neither does a double weakness to Ground-type. Players who use Salazzle would be wise to use a Focus Sash on the toxic lizard Pokemon, hoping that it can dish out a few hits before it faints.

3 Aegislash

Top 10 Glass Cannons in Pokemon

Aegislash is a sword Pokemon that functions as a double-edged sword. In its default Shield Forme, it can take on any physical hit without a scratch, while using King’s Shield to lower its opponent’s physical attack when necessary. Its offense isn’t the best while in this form.

It’s not until Aegislash goes into Blade Forme that it becomes an offensive force to be reckoned with while also becoming something of a glass cannon. In Blade Forme, its physical and special attack stats are both 140. On the downside, both its defenses have a base stat of 50, and its HP and speed both have a base stat of 60. One super-effective move can potentially make the royal sword Pokemon down for the count.

2 Pheromosa

Top 10 Glass Cannons in Pokemon

When it comes to Ultra Beasts, Pheromosa stands out as the fastest among its peers with a base speed of 151. Not only that, but it is also a great offensive force, boasting a base stat of 137 for its physical and special attack. Pheramosa’s ability, Beast Boost, raises the lissome Pokemon’s attack by one stage if it KOs another Pokemon.

Despite its blazing speed and balanced offense, Pheromosa’s Achilles heel is its defense. It has a base stat of 37 for both of its defenses, and a double-weakness to Flying-type moves doesn’t help, either. So, while Pheromosa can outspeed a Gliscor or even a Dragonite, a Flying-type move from either Pokemon will put Pheromosa out for good.

1 Deoxys (Attack Forme)

Top 10 Glass Cannons in Pokemon

The legendary Pokemon Deoxys has four different forms, one of them being Attack Forme. Attack Forme Deoxys is best known for his offensive capabilities, having a whopping base stat of 180 for both its physical and special attacks. A base speed of 150 makes this Pokemon faster than other speedsters, such as Accelgor and Zeraora.

While Attack Forme Deoxys’ offense is phenomenal, the same can’t be said for its defense. Both of its defenses are pitiful, having a 20 base stat in both categories. That’s even lower than most baby Pokemon! With all those things in mind, Attack Forme Deoxys is perhaps the purest definition of a glass cannon Pokemon there is.
