Torchic is your Community Day Pokémon GO Pokémon for the month of May.
Niantic has recently announced the details for May’s Community Day, and this time the big winner is Torchic. As with every Community Day, there’s a bunch of reasons to get out there and play Pokémon GO, and May will be no exception.
To start, there will be Torchics everywhere. A worldwide three-times buff to overall wild Pokémon spawn rates will have a weighting towards Torchics, letting you capture and evolve the Torchic line. In addition, there will be an increased chance for a shiny Torchic to spawn to capstone your collection.
Also as usual, Torchic can learn a new move during Community Day provided you evolve it during the three-hour Community Day window. We don’t know what the move could be, but there’s some hope that it will give a shot in the arm to Blaziken, which has fallen by the wayside amongst Pokémon GO’s attackers.
According to the Pokémon GO Gamepress wiki, Blaziken is 40th in overall attack power. Counter and Overheat are the usual choices for movesets, but Blaziken can also come equipped with Stone Edge, Fire Spin, Brave Bird, and Focus Blast.

However, Blaziken isn’t usually a first choice for fire attackers. Moltres and Charizard are both superior attackers with the Fire-typing, while Machamp is the superior fighter. Hopefully the new move, whatever it may be, will help Blaziken achieve the same relevance in Pokémon GO as it has in the wider competitive Pokémon universe where it’s seen as a terrifying attack-based sweeper.
In addition to the increase in Torchic spawns, Community Day will bring 3-times the Stardust per capture as well as 3-hour lures. There is also usually some other goodies associated with your daily quests, so keep an eye out for those too.
Pokémon GO May Community Day is May 19th from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Mark your calendars and get ready to harvest some Torchic candy.
