Summer’s new reality series Tough as Nails airs Wednesdays on CBS at 9/8 central.

Phil Keoghan, famed host and producer of CBS’ The Amazing Race, dirtied up the summer lineup with this new competition series that follows 12 blue-collar Americans as they compete in teams and individually in job-site inspired challenges for a hefty cash prize. In an original twist that speaks to the heart of the show, even when contestants are eliminated from the individual competition, they remain on the season to rack up cash during team challenges. Instead of encouraging deception and sly tactics like other CBS reality shows, Tough as Nails relies on camaraderie and the value of a hard day’s work to keep audiences entertained. The series was recently renewed for a second season, an impressive feat for a show broadcasted by a network that often cancels their new reality shows after one season. Filming has been delayed due to the pandemic, and will begin once the network and production deem it safe to do so. While Keoghan didn’t expect the show to premiere during a pandemic, he believes its themes of unity and respect are invaluable during these worrisome and divisive times.
