Edward’s supernatural ability to hear other people’s thoughts makes him come across as rude and judgemental. Since people can’t always control their thoughts, Edward needs to judge them based on their actions.

A thread on Reddit claims that not doing the same for Edward is hypocritical. Many people dislike him for his internal monologue, but if readers judge him for his thoughts rather than his actions, they’re doing the same thing they chastize Edward for.

7 Edward Watching Bella Sleep Isn’t As Creepy As People Make It

A lot of readers believe that Bella and Edward’s relationship is more toxic than romantic. Edward was controlling and overprotective, and Bella rarely had room to breathe. As an example, they brought up Carlisle trying to push the animal diet on the Volturi while he was staying with them. The user ended their argument by claiming that drinking from humans doesn’t make them monsters, since it’s a natural part of being a vampire.

1 Edward Should Have Trusted Jacob Around Bella

Edward and Jacob already didn’t like each other because of the rivalry between their species and their infatuation with Bella added fuel to the fire. Edward didn’t like leaving Bella alone with Jacob, and one of the main reasons was that she could get hurt.

A user on Reddit points out that Edward was more of a threat to Bella than Jacob was, as showcased in his many problematic scenes. So he shouldn’t have been worried about Jacob’s temper. Even if Jacob was dangerous, at least he didn’t think about killing Bella and drinking her blood.
