The long-awaited PlayStation 5 reveal event is happening this week, based on a Twitch ad that is promoting a new date of June 11.
Sony has slowly been drip-feeding information about the PlayStation 5 to fans, which has caused a lot of frustration, considering that we still haven’t seen the console. This is in stark contrast to Microsoft, which has already revealed the Xbox Series X and showed off footage of its games in action.
Sony planned a PlayStation 5 event for June 4 but decided to postpone it in order to allow more important voices to be heard. It seems that a new date has already been set. According to Nibellion on Twitter, there is a leaked Twitch ad that is promoting a new date for the event, which will happen on June 11. An English version of the ad can be found in the comments, confirming that it will take place at 9 pm BST/13 pm PT.
It’s still unclear as to what will be revealed at this event, except for maybe a black version of the DualSense controller. The delay announcement mentioned that PS5 games were meant to be shown, but there was no indication as to what games. There are some fans who are hoping to finally get a glimpse of the console, but even that is not guaranteed at this stage.
The PlayStation 5 is due to be released during the 2020 holiday season, but we still don’t know the release date, price, or launch line-up. It’s starting to feel as if Microsoft and Sony are waiting for the other to announce their launch price first, in order to undercut the cost of the competition. Someone has to announce something soon, and Microsoft still needs to win back the crowd following the disastrous “gameplay” reveal trailer for the Xbox Series X. If this leaked release date is true, then we might finally be able to determine if the PlayStation 5 has what it takes to beat the Xbox Series X in the upcoming console war.
