Fans of the Neo Geo and classic arcade games will be happy to hear that SNK is back with some Twitch Prime freebies. Much like its first round of games for Prime subscribers back in May, those with an active membership to Amazon’s streaming service will be given seven more Neo Geo titles to add to their libraries. That’s actually a bit of a misnomer, but we’ll get into the details below.
For July, you’ll be able to download Metal Slug 2, Shock Troopers: 2nd Squad, Baseball Stars 2, Sengoku 3, Ironclad, The King of Monsters, and the SNK 40th Anniversary Collection. That last one is where I bring up the number discrepancy because it includes an additional 24 games in a single package. You’re technically getting 30 games this month.
This is on top of the seven games currently available. Those are Art of Fighting 2, Blazing Star, Fatal Fury Special, The King of Fighters 2000, The King of Fighters 2002, Pulstar, and Samurai Shodown 2. You’ll still be able to nab these for a short time yet, but they’ll soon be replaced with the above list.
To download your free games from Twitch Prime, you’ll need to download the Twitch app for PC. This is the only option as you don’t receive Steam keys or anything. You can follow this quick guide from Tom’s Guide on how to do that.
Once downloaded, the games will be DRM-free copies. This means you can take them wherever you want and play them without internet access. It’s a bit of an inconvenience to lock things to a specific launcher, but it’s not much different from Steam or the Epic Games Store.
The inclusion of the SNK 40th Anniversary Collection is a huge shock. There are so many obscure and classic titles contained in there that SNK could have just given that single package away for the month. It doesn’t include some of the more notable Neo Geo titles, so that’s likely why it is being paired with Metal Slug and Shock Troopers.
This latest drop of titles is only the second of three planned giveaways, so we’re still going to get even more from SNK.
