Twitch star InvaderVie sparked controversy on Saturday after she sat down with fans to discuss the economics of $20 and time management. Her rant was an attempt to explain the minimal expenses of subbing to her channel, saying “it’s not like a ton of money” and “I’m not asking you for a large financial contribution.”
A bevy of fellow Twitch stars and influencers called her out on the selfish and entitled statements, creating a frenzy of distaste for the greedy streamer across social media.
InvaderVie starts off the clip by explaining that the money her viewers make doesn’t matter to her, despite going on to consider the viewers in chat who don’t sub and donate as “irresponsible.” Her egotistical comments, made in between short bursts of giggles and roving hand motions, are later even doubled down when she adds: “No one’s ever going to convince me that what I’m saying is so rude or so unacceptable or so outrageous.”

Some are now actually trying, exemplified by the likes of IWDominator, Pokimane, and xQc, who appeared the most put off by InvaderVie’s comments out of the lot. The former professional Overwatch player loudly voiced his thoughts on stream by saying, “Maybe you make a better environment or a better stream or, better yet, better rewards.” He later even watched the clip live and laughed, pointing out that her own words could be used against her in the same vein.
Pokimane likewise voiced contempt, Tweeting “get these s— takes off my TL and off my streaming platform.” Others had even better takeaways, like writer and producer Alanah Pearce, who instead asked followers to donate to a COVID19 relief fund rather than draw more attention to the streamer. With Twitch breaking records of all kinds, InvaderVie certainly doesn’t need any more help getting views.
The ugly trend first began with BadBunny in January, when she complained to her chat “I haven’t gotten a donation or a sub in an hour!” Que the upsidedown face emoji, followed closely behind by the money-mouth. Not long after, Dr. Disrespect roasted her with a hilarious three-part satirical sketch, wherein he yells on the phone with his “manager” (his mother) about “Not working for free.”
To say InvaderVie is out of touch is an understatement, not only proven by the fact of her shilling for subs amid an ongoing pandemic but also for the gall to press unwarranted financial inuendoes upon her viewers.
