Although Valheim’s bosses can pose a serious threat to players, it took one dedicated gamer just an hour and a half to slay them all successively. A different yet equally impressive approach was adopted by another player, who repeatedly killed over 20 Bonemass bosses in order to collect numerous trophies and use them as decorations.

Preferring quantity over quality, a determined Valheim boss slayer eliminated over two dozen Bonemasses in order to gather enough trophies to fulfill an eerie building plan. The player used the collected boss items to construct a vicious-looking Throne of Skulls, which served as a macabre addition to their home. It all became possible thanks to the Bonemass trophy item, which looks like a blob of goo with a few skulls sticking out of it. If arranged correctly, these trophies turn into a convincing pile of skulls.

A dedicated Valheim player, NickRawcliffe, managed to beat all the game’s bosses in just under 90 minutes, as demonstrated on YouTube (via IGN). The previous record was almost an hour longer, so that’s a noticeable improvement, although the whole process was full of exceptional luck. Not only did NickRawcliffe manage to eliminate the first opponent, Eikthyr, in just one hit after encountering it, but he was also lucky enough to find all the necessary items and markers to summon the rest of Valheim’s bosses swiftly. Usually, it takes players a lot of time to get things right, but in the case of the YouTube content creator, it felt like the game itself was helping him beat it. The player didn’t even put any effort into finding the final boss, Yagluth, as it simply appeared in plain sight.

Valheim’s bosses are scary mythical beings, but despite their frightening exterior, they were initially intended to look slightly different. In order to stick to the original creative vision, the indie hit’s creators from Iron Gate Studios are currently working on a visual redesign of the game’s bosses. It’s not yet clear when exactly the updated models will arrive, but the development team has already hinted at possible improvements. Keeping the updated look of the bosses a secret for now, the devs demonstrated the altered Troll’s model, which looks larger and significantly more detailed than the current version.

Even though it’s a crafting/survival title at its core, Valheim has a lot in common with action/adventure titles, especially when one considers its combat system and boss fights. The game’s less open-ended mechanics and smaller amount of abusable exploits prevent its major content from being completed by speedrunners in mere seconds. In that context, investing an hour and a half into slaying all the five bosses is a solid achievement worth admiring, and it’ll probably encourage other players to try to break that record.
