The next clan of vampires has been revealed for Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 and it seems that the blood sorcerers will be making their return to the series, as the player will be able to join the Tremere clan in order to turn the red river within their body into a weapon.

The player begins Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 as a thin-blooded vampire, which are the weakest and most despised creatures of their kind. At some point in the game, the player will be able to join one of the established clans (most likely through consuming the soul of another vampire) and will gain all of the powers and weaknesses of their new bloodline. Paradox Interactive has revealed that the Tremere will be joining the Brujah as a playable clan in Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2.

The Tremere are known for being both usurpers and warlocks. Unlike the other vampire clans in the setting, the Tremere clan does not stem directly from Caine of the Bible, as they stole the curse of vampirism in order to maintain their power. The Tremere were originally human wizards, but the fading of magic from the world caused them to seek other methods in order to maintain their power. It was through horrific experiments on vampires that the Tremere were able to become undead themselves. Because of this, they became able to wield the power of their blood as a facsimile of the magic that they had lost.

The players who join the Tremere will gain access to two disciplines – Auspex and Thaumaturgy. Auspex allows the vampire to enhance their senses to supernatural levels, which gives them access to the Aura Sense (see enemies through walls and mark their presence) and Psychic Projection (leave the body as a spirit in order to scout ahead) abilities. Thaumaturgy is one of the most powerful and versatile disciplines in the Vampire: The Masquerade tabletop RPG, which manifests in the Skewer (throw a spike made of blood at the enemy), Purge (force the enemy to vomit up blood), and Blood Boil (make the enemy explode from within) powers.

It’s unclear how the Tremere’s clan bane will work in Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2. In the tabletop game, a Tremere vampire cannot perform the Blood Bond on other Kindred, which involves ensnaring their mind. It’s unclear if blood bonding will be a factor in Bloodlines 2, so it’s likely that they will be given a new bane to compensate.

Life has become hard for the Tremere in the most recent edition of Vampire: The Masquerade, as almost all of the elders of the clan were wiped out by the Second Inquisition. The loss of its leadership left one of the most structured clans in chaos, which has caused the remaining Tremere to splinter off into factions. The fact that most of the former Tremere elders have been slain means that there is room on the top of the pyramid for the first time in the history of the clan and any vampire with the right skills can grab all of that unclaimed power for themselves.
