Vampire The Masquerade is a tabletop Roleplay Game originally published in 1991 by White Wolf and was part of their shared World of Darkness universe. It spawned several other games set in WoD as well as a card game, video games, and a TV show. After a turbulent history, Vampire The Masquerade is now in its fifth edition and published by Modiphius Entertainment.
Vampire The Masquerade: Rivals is not the first card game that has bore the Vampire stamp. Originally released in 1994 as Vampire: Jyhad, the game went through a name change a year later to become Vampire: The Eternal Struggle. Development ceased temporarily in 1996 until White Wolf took back control in 2000, releasing content until 2010. In 2018, Black Chantry announced they had secured the rights to the Vampire: The Eternal Struggle with a new version due by mid-2020. This has since been pushed back to September.
Vampire The Masquerade: Rivals is set in San Francisco and sees players take on the role of the leader of one of four rival clans, Brujah, Malkavian, Toreador and Ventrue. It is designed for two to four players who battle for dominance over each other. As the leader, you will have different abilities based upon the clan you represent. You can also recruit thralls and engage is other mortal shenanigans while you wage war on the streets themselves. You can also fight Rivals in the heart of their Havens, nowhere is safe. There are three ways to win the game; Score 13 Agenda, Reduce your Rival’s Prestige to zero, and by eliminating your Rivals active vampires by returning them to torpor.
