The reveal of Pokemon Snap made it feel as if the game was still a long way off, but there’s evidence to suggest it could be released before the end of the year.

A Pokemon Presents earlier this year revealed a lot of information about the franchise’s future that made its fans very happy. The addition of mega evolution to Pokemon Go, a League of Legends style take on the franchise called Pokemon Unite, but best of all, a sequel to the Nintendo 64’s Pokemon Snap.

The trailer for the game, which you can reacquaint yourself with below, looks visually stunning. There’s just one problem. Nintendo has given no indication of when the game will be coming to the Switch and hasn’t given fans any sort of update since the initial announcement. However, we remain hopeful that Pokemon Snap 2 will be with us before the end of 2020.

Even though it hasn’t been given an official and concrete release date, Pokemon Snap has been given a placeholder. December 31, 2020. Since that is after Christmas, there is almost zero chance that the game will be released that day. It’s far more likely it will hit the market a month or so earlier in order to get those holiday sales. It would also be the perfect way for Nintendo to win attention back from its rivals if it were to be released around the same time as the PS5 and Xbox Series X.

On top of that, there tends to be a major Pokemon release of some sort during the holiday season. Last year it was Sword and Shield. It could be argued that Sword and Shield’s DLC Crown Tundra is that release this year, but since most players picking that up will have already paid for it, there’s every reason to think Pokemon has an unannounced money-spinning release up its sleeve.

As it proved via the announcement and release of Super Mario 3D All-Stars, Nintendo also loves to spring things on its players. Pokemon Snap is likely at the back of most people’s minds right now, so the sudden announcement that it is coming before the end of the year would generate a lot of hype. All of that being said, the pandemic has caused a lot of delays in the gaming world, and Nintendo didn’t let on how far along the game’s development was, so seeing it finished and released by November certainly isn’t a sure thing.
