What New Pokémon Snap Could Reveal About Legends Arceus

Although New Pokémon Snap and Pokémon Legends: Arceus will be released a year apart from one another, there’s a lot the former’s Lental Region could teach fans about the feudal Sinnoh Region. The Lental Region of New Pokémon Snap is a Pokémon paradise untouched by humankind, so it may reflect how Pokémon behave in a newly discovered Sinnoh. Or, at least, one can hope the Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Arceus are as lively as the ones in New Pokémon Snap.

New Pokémon Snap and Pokémon Legends: Arceus’ one major commonality is that the Pokémon in their regions are unfamiliar with humans. Outside of the occasional photography tour or early human settlement, Pokémon should behave differently here than they do in modern regions. The trailers for both titles show Pokémon relaxing and lumbering about in the open, which is something they don’t normally do in the mainline games.

A lot can be learned from observing Pokémon in their natural habitat, and that might be even more true for those who play New Pokémon Snap. Although Pokémon Snap is an on-rails “shooter” where Pokémon are captured through the power of photography, it may give insight into how Pokémon interact with their environment in future titles.

New Pokémon Snap Could Teach Players About Pokémon In Legends: Arceus

Up until now, mainline Pokémon games have only explored regions largely affected by humans. Even the reconstructed Wild Areas in Pokémon Sword and Shield are littered with large, human-made structures, so these are hardly a perfect depiction of Pokémon’s natural habitat. Humanity’s minuscule impact on the Lental Region, on the other hand, has allowed Pokémon to continue to behave naturally. If Pokémon Legends: Arceus is meant to replicate a similarly untouched region, the way Pokémon behave in New Pokémon Snap might give a glimpse at how they will act in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

Yet, this might be a big ask from The Pokémon Company, as it seems to cut corners when developing new Pokémon games. The Pokémon community was highly disappointed in the lack of animations in Pokémon Sword and Shield, as well as with the low quality of the animations present. It would be awesome to see wild Pokémon do more than pace back and forth or occasionally roar. If the wild Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Arceus have stellar animations like the ones in New Pokémon Snap, it would make the feudal Sinnoh Region feel more alive than any region before.
