The Lifetime hit Married at First Sight will have a brand-new companion show, Married At First Sight: The Afterparty, and it’s time to take a look at what fans can expect from the spin-off. Married at First Sight: The Afterparty isn’t the first MAFS spin-off airing on the network, and it may not be the last. The show’s wild popularity has sparked numerous offshoots, including Married at First Sight: Unmatchables, which gives former MAFS applicants that didn’t make the cut a shot at love.

However, Married at First Sight: The Afterparty will be replacing Married at First Sight: Unfiltered. Former castmate Jamie Otis hosted MAFS: Unfiltered. Otis was one of the first to fall deeply in love while filming MAFS, with her husband, Doug Hehner. More recently, Jamie has lived with mental health issues. In a post on Instagram, Jamie cataloged the ten years she’d dedicated to Married at First Sight. She says she gave her all, from bleeding during interviews due to miscarriages to breastfeeding her rainbow baby between shots. She said that she was motivated to continue filming despite the challenges, as MAFS gave everything in return. Simultaneously, Jamie noted that her departure was a showrunner decision, rather than her own. While she was surprised, she was grateful for the time and space the decision opened up in her life. Neither Jamie nor Lifetime have given exact reasons why she wasn’t asked to come back.

In her stead, Married At First Sight: The Afterparty will be hosted by Emmy-nominated actor, host, and MAFS fan, Keshia Knight Pulliam. After a notably tumultuous MAFS season 13, producers may be looking for new perspectives. Keshia is known for her work on The Cosby Show and Tyler Perry’s House of Payne. Keshia posted a video to announce her involvement in the show. She gave fans a glimpse of the set as she headed for hair and makeup with a coffee in hand. She also shared a glowing shot of herself in her new hosting chair, where she’ll be breaking down show drama with castmates, and digging into relationship dynamics not aired in the final footage. Keshia wrote on Instagram, “I’m so excited to announce that I will be hosting Married at First Sight: Afterparty!!”

Keshia stated that the show is premiering on January 5 at 11 PM ET, following the MAFS season 14 premiere. Recently, MAFS producers were accused of fakery. This allegation can hopefully be addressed on the new spin-off. According to Deadline, Kinetic Content, owned by Red Arrow Studios, will produce the show. Chris Coelen, Eric Detwiler, Montré Burton, Toni Gallagher, and Geoff Nuanes will be executive producing as representatives from Kinetic. Meanwhile, Cat Rodriguez and Amy Winter are joining as Lifetime producers.

The switch from MAFS: Unfiltered to MAFS: The Afterparty was likely prompted by a natural need for change over time. After a decade, it makes sense that producers want new energy. Meanwhile, the decision to hire Keshia reflects efforts across reality television to diversify casts and hosts alike. Keshia is destined to thrive in the role as a longtime fan and Married at First Sight viewers are hungry for new content with a fresh perspective.
