Whats Next For Scarlet Witch In The MCU After WandaVision

Scarlet Witch has fast become one of the most interesting characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe because of the exploration of her history and grief in WandaVision, so what’s next for her in MCU Phase 4 movies and TV shows? Every episode of WandaVision spawned more theories about how it connects to upcoming MCU titles, from the beginning of the multiverse to Wanda setting up the villain that will feature in the Doctor Strange sequel and some information on Wanda’s future is already established.

Whatever the plan, it seems Marvel has big plans for Scarlet Witch after WandaVision, and with Phase 4 kicking off now, it’s likely there will be more from Wanda in the franchise’s upcoming movies and shows. Elizabeth Olsen teased Scarlet Witch’s connection to the multiverse as early as 2013, and her character has a long history and strong connection to the multiverse in the Marvel comics, so this has been a long time coming for the character. With Phase 4 set to expand into the multiverse in at least two movies, it seems inevitable that Wanda’s involvement will expand even further beyond her own show.

So what’s next for Scarlet Witch in the MCU? She’s confirmed to appear again in the MCU, is rumored to possibly be a part of others, and would make a logical addition to yet more. Here’s where the MCU stands in terms of Wanda Maximoff’s future after WandaVision.

Scarlet Witch Is In Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness

Whats Next For Scarlet Witch In The MCU After WandaVision

Way back in 2019, before we knew anything much about WandaVision, Marvel confirmed at Comic-Con in San Diego that Elizabeth Olsen would be returning in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, alongside Benedict Cumberbatch in the title role. It seems like she’ll have a significant role in the movie, given her star billing alongside Cumberbatch. One theory posits that Scarlet Witch’s Chaos Magic could set up the multiverse in WandaVision for Doctor Strange to explore, contain or manipulate in the movie. Depending on where WandaVision ends, Wanda may enter the multiverse, set something off which attracts Strange’s attention, or even be trapped and in need of rescuing.

Furthermore, with the introduction and teasing of the “nexus” – a concept central to several plotlines in Marvel Comics – it appears characters who have a particular connection to the multiverse, known as “Nexus Beings” will become central to MCU plots moving forward. Scarlet Witch is a theorized candidate to be a Nexus Being in the MCU, along with Vision, Loki and Doctor Strange.

Could Scarlet Witch Appear In Spider-Man: No Way Home?

Marvel Cinematic Universe producer Kevin Feige has confirmed that WandaVision, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and Spider-Man: No Way Home act like a loose trilogy. This doesn’t necessarily confirm that Scarlet Witch will appear in the latter, particularly with it coming before Doctor Strange 2, but it certainly implies she’s strongly connected. Doctor Strange is already confirmed to be appearing in the film alongside Tom Holland as the titular Spidey and his regular castmates too, which adds credence to the possibility.

While not confirmed – and even denied by key players – there have been rumors circulating about actors reprising their roles from other Spider-Man films, including Tobey McGuire and Andrew Garfield’s versions of the titular hero, as well as villains Doctor Octopus, played by Alfred Molina, and Electro, played by Jamie Foxx. Some of those are only rumors so far but, if true, castings like this could be more evidence of the multiverse in Spider-Man: No Way Home. With Wanda’s own connection to the multiverse, it wouldn’t be a stretch for her to appear as well.

Will Scarlet Witch Be In Avengers 5?

At the end of Avengers: Endgame, it’s unclear whether Wanda Maximoff is an official member of the Avengers line-up. Certainly, the events of WandaVision seem to show that she’s not a part of the team for now after her defection to Team Cap in Captain America: Civil War. Whether that’s because she’s distracted or contained by what’s happening in Westview or because she’s no longer affiliated with the Avengers it’s hard to tell. What’s clear is that Scarlet Witch is now an incredibly powerful individual whom the Avengers would probably like on the team. Wanda may yet rejoin the Avengers for their next official group outing down the line in Avengers 5. Even if that isn’t the case, it’s clear that there will be a significant role for the multiverse across MCU Phase 4 movies and shows, and as a powerful individual linked to it, Scarlet Witch may also have a large part to play throughout these titles. WandaVision could just have been the very beginning for her.
