When Animal Crossing Villagers Appear On Mystery Islands In ACNH

One of Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ main attractions is its nearly four hundred different Villagers available to move to players’ islands. With eight different personalities and thirty-five species, there is a perfect neighbor for everyone. However, one of the most difficult parts of the game is finding that perfect Animal Crossing Villager.

There are several ways to meet Villagers and encourage them to become a neighbor, but the method players have the most direct control over are Mystery Islands. Once player islands have developed enough, Tom Nook will task players to set up vacant properties that will eventually be filled with one of the many Villagers Animal Crossing: New Horizons has to offer. Those that aren’t keen on letting random chance take control of their island’s roster can purchase a Nook Miles ticket and begin their Villager hunt. From the moment a vacant plot of land has opened on an island, or a current resident has decided to move out, Mystery Islands will be home to a new Villager.

Animal Crossing Villagers can appear on Mystery Islands at any point during the year. There is no greater or lesser likelihood of certain personalities or species appearing at any specific time or date. Those searching for specific Villagers will be at the mercy of a random number generator (RNG) that decides the identity of the character once the Mystery Island has been generated. This randomness has unwittingly turned hunting for Animal Crossing’s most popular Villagers into a multi-hour long search.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ Villager Limit Prevents Mystery Spawns

Despite the overwhelming number of Villagers to choose from, Animal Crossing has a limit of ten residents on each player’s island. This limit does not take into account vital NPCs such as Tom Nook, Timmy, Tommy, Isabelle, the Abel Sisters, or visiting vendors. If players have reached the limit on their island, the only method to meet new Villagers is through the campsite. Isabelle will inform players if they have a visitor during the announcements once the game is opened. Should Mystery Islands be visited during this time, they will be completely deserted.

Players that have reached the Villager limit on their islands shouldn’t fret, as there are ways to get unwanted Animal Crossing Villagers to move out. Once their mind has been made up, and they have begun to pack their things, random Villagers will begin to spawn on Mystery Islands once again. Unfortunately, players’ first choice will be their only choice. Once a stranger is located on a Mystery Island and invited to move in, no further Villagers will spawn on Mystery Islands until a space is freed up once more.

While it can be frustrating for players to find their favorite character, sometimes Mystery Islands can offer pleasant surprises. Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ most popular Villagers aren’t the only charming neighbors that can be encountered. Sometimes the lesser known, more quirky Villagers can be the perfect find.
