When Every Arrowverse Show Returns (August 2021 Dates You Need To Know)

When every Arrowverse show is returning from hiatus in August 2021 and what dates to know for the superhero slate’s fall return to The CW. The Arrowverse has grown a lot over the last several years, launching seven series (so far) in the shared universe. This year has already bid farewell to Black Lightning, which wrapped after four seasons, and will see Supergirl coming to a close after six seasons in the fall. However, there is still plenty to look forward to in the coming weeks as most of the series will finally come back with new episodes after a couple of lengthy breaks.

Considering how TV schedules have been pretty clunky this year due to the pandemic, production shutdowns and subsequent filming delays, The CW wound up pushing back the premiere dates of all their shows into 2021, which meant the currently airing seasons of the Arrowverse rolled over into the summer, something which has never happened before. While The Flash wrapped season 7 in July, Superman & Lois, Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl are set to return from their hiatuses in August.

Stargirl is the exception because it’s returning with an all-new season rather than picking up after a break between episodes. Confusing as it all might be, here is when Superman & Lois, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, and Stargirl will air their next episodes, as well as when the Arrowverse shows (that are not ending) are expected to premiere in the fall.

Superman & Lois

When Every Arrowverse Show Returns (August 2021 Dates You Need To Know)

Superman & Lois is the latest Arrowverse series to premiere on The CW. With a splashy hour and a half debut in February 2021, the superhero series set its tone and made a name for itself by portraying an iteration of Superman audiences hadn’t seen before. However, Superman & Lois has had an unusual season 1 due to production delays caused by the pandemic. The first break happened after only five episodes, which was primarily due to someone testing positive for COVID-19, leading to a brief production shutdown for safety purposes.

Since then, however, the show has taken a few more breaks after airing its episodes, with the latest stopping point being after season 1’s episode 13, which saw Morgan Edge escaping his Kryptonite prison. The reason for this break is primarily due to the Olympic Games, but Superman & Lois is officially scheduled to return on Tuesday, August 10 at 9:00 pm ET for its 14th episode. With only two more episodes left, the season 1 finale is set to air on August 17, after which the superhero series won’t return to The CW until midseason in 2022.

Legends of Tomorrow

Legends of Tomorrow has aired ten episodes of season 6, but the break between its tenth and 11th episodes has been its longest thus far. Legends of Tomorrow, which relies more heavily on special effects than other Arrowverse shows, is also in a unique position because the cast and crew have already begun production on season 7 while the sixth season is still airing. The superhero series will return on Sunday, August 8 at 8:00 pm ET, airing its 11th episode, called “The Final Frame.”

The reason for the break between episodes ten and 11 is due to the 2021 Olympic Games, which are airing in Legends of Tomorrow’s usual timeslot (among others). That makes sense considering that viewers’ attention is focused on the games in the interim and the Arrowverse shows, like Batwoman, have likewise taken breaks during other major televised events (award shows, etc.). Following Legends of Tomorrow’s return on August 8, its remaining episodes will air through to its season 6 finale on September 5.

Supergirl

Supergirl may have returned for season 6 in March, but it went on a break in May after airing just seven episodes, turning it into the longest hiatus between episodes of all the Arrowverse series so far. Luckily, Supergirl will return on Tuesday, August 24 at 9:00 pm ET (it previously aired on Sundays). While it’s unclear if there will be anymore breaks for the series, there are still 13 episodes left in season 6, which amount to 20 episodes in total. The 12th episode, called “Blind Spots,” is co-written by series star Azie Tesfai and is directed by Arrow alum David Ramsey, who will also appear in the episode as John Diggle. It will see Kelly Olsen suit up as Guardian, taking over from her brother James in a bid to protect National City. Supergirl is perhaps the most highly anticipated return of the Arrowverse since it’s in its final season and left off on a cliffhanger that saw Kara Danvers finally rescued from the Phantom Zone, but with Nyxly hopping aboard the ship back to Earth.

Stargirl

When Every Arrowverse Show Returns (August 2021 Dates You Need To Know)

Stargirl season 1 aired on The CW one day after its release on the now-defunct DC Universe streaming platform. Now loosely a part of the Arrowverse after Crisis on Infinite Earths, Stargirl season 2 will premiere on Tuesday, August 10 at 8:00 pm ET. For its first week, it will lead in Superman & Lois before Supergirl fills in the 9:00 pm timeslot for its remaining season 6 episodes. Season 2 of Stargirl will pick up after Courtney Whitmore and her friends defeated the Injustice Society of America. But while the core ISA was gone, Starman was revealed to be alive somehow and Cindy Burman will probably be wanting revenge as well. John Wesley Shipp’s Jay Garrick, who previously guest starred on The Flash, is also set to appear in Stargirl season 2’s ninth episode.

Arrowverse Shows Returning In The Fall Of 2021

This fall will be a return to form for The CW, as many series making up its lineup will premiere at around the usual dates that they have in the past. For the Arrowverse, that means Batwoman, Legends of Tomorrow, and The Flash will debut their next seasons before the winter hiatus in December. Legends of Tomorrow season 7 debuts on Wednesday, October 13 at 8:00 pm ET, abandoning its usual Sunday airdate as The CW expands its programming to include Saturday evenings. Batwoman season 3 will follow suit on Wednesday, October 13 at 9:00 pm ET.

Both Arrowverse series have already begun production on their respective seasons, with Batwoman expected to get a shorter season 3 than it did for season 2, which came in at a total of 18 episodes. Meanwhile, The Flash season 8 — which begins production on August 16 — will premiere on Tuesday, November 16 at 8:00 pm ET with the first of a five-episode event that will have a crossover feel to it. Fans should expect The CW’s flagship show to include other characters from throughout the Arrowverse, though it’s unclear who will cross over and what exactly will bring the superheroes together this time around.
