Miles Morales appears to be doing an awful lot of work for the people of New York City in the upcoming PS5 game which begs the question, where’s Peter?
Sony and Insomniac took PlayStation fans by surprise earlier this year when they revealed that a Spider-Man would be here before the end of 2020. That game will be a PS5 launch title and be called Spider-Man: Miles Morales. It will not be a full sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man, but will instead fill the gap between the two games and pad out the story of Morales.
PlayStation has been showing off Miles Morales as much as it possibly can. The latest sneak peek came in the form of some gameplay at last week’s showcase event. Morales is tasked with saving as many innocent bystanders as he can from Brooklyn Bridge as the iconic landmark crumbles into the East River below.
Morales sure looks like he could use some help at that moment, maybe from the hero of the first game, Peter Parker. However, as of right now, Parker is nowhere to be seen in this game. The assumption is that he will be saved for the full sequel. However, his reluctance to help the citizens of New York City will take some explanation.
Some Spidey fans might have assumed that Parker is dead. Morales witnesses Parker’s death at the hands of Green Goblin in the comic books, so it’s a natural assumption to make. Fear not though, as it has already been confirmed that Parker will return in Spider-Man 2. Our best guess? Despite Square Enix moving in on the video game Avengers territory, the original web-slinger is away saving the rest of the world with other heroes.
Just because Marvel’s Avengers now exists and has been developed by different studios doesn’t mean we won’t see a different team of heroes unite under the Insomniac banner. Square Enix will be using a Spider-Man separate from Insomniac’s in 2021, so why can’t the opposite happen in the form of a different team of Avengers coming to the aid of Parker and Morales? It could happen, but for now, it would appear that Morales has been left to defend NYC alone.
