Why Dead Mans Party In Witcher 3 Is One Of Its Best Quests

Of all the available quests in The Witcher 3’s Hearts of Stone expansion, Dead Man’s Party has to be one of the best. Not only is it a well-written quest, but Dead Man’s Party in Witcher 3 manages to pack a significant amount of character and story development into a chaotic party scene overflowing with humorous one-liners and haywire antics. This main-story mission also pushes Geralt far out of his comfort zone, which could be refreshing for players to see.

Dead Man’s Party in Witcher 3 is one of the main story quests of Hearts of Stone where Geralt must fulfill Olgierd von Everec’s requests. He requests that Geralt show his brother Vlodimir von Everec the time of his life, intentionally setting him up to fail as Vlodimir has been dead for some time now. After raising the late von Everec brother’s ghost, Geralt gets possessed by his spirit and allows Vlodimir to take his body for a spin that night as Shani’s escort to a wedding.

One of the things that makes this Witcher 3 side quest so great is that the gameplay itself is fun and varied. In conversational settings, players will be presented with a variety of whatever nonsense Vlodimir von Everec can come up with spoken through Geralt’s mouth. These dialogue options usually end up getting the Witcher embroiled into trouble with the locals, with the option typically being to fight his way out. Events at the wedding in Dead Man’s Party in Witcher 3 include diving for lost slippers in a pond, chasing and catching pigs for prizes, juggling, dancing, and drinking the evening away.

Dead Man’s Party In Witcher 3 Is A Wild Ride For Both Geralt & Players

As well as wonderful gameplay, Dead Man’s Party in Witcher 3 pushes the stoic Witcher protagonist further from his comfort zone than players have previously seen him, and shows a softer and more jovial side of his personality that Vlodimir forces out. As is the nature of becoming possessed by a ghost, Geralt loses a lot of control over his situation, prompting Shani to even comment at one point how he should let loose and relax a little sometimes. The late von Everec brother also gives Geralt a fresh shave and haircut and dresses him to the nines before heading out to spout cheesy one-liners at every fair lady he passes.

Toward the ending of this Witcher 3 quest, at the thought of breaking his promise to Geralt to be out of his body by midnight, Gaunter O’Dimm will show up and banish Vlodimir, thus freeing the Witcher of his binds. Although players do not have much control over what happens, they are mostly able to keep Geralt from making a complete fool of himself. Dead Man’s Party in Witcher 3 strikes a great balance between narrowly controlled chaos and unhinged revelry, making it one of the best and most memorable quests that The Witcher 3 has to offer.
