Why Dragon Quest 10 Offline Will Probably Release Globally

The Dragon Quest series has often failed to release games outside its home country of Japan. This is especially true for Dragon Quest 10, the MMORPG that has never released worldwide in a localized form. However, more recently, many titles are getting released for a global audience, and it’s possible that a newly unveiled offline version of DQ10 will see a global release instead.

As part of the 35th Anniversary for Dragon Quest, a livestream showed off several new and exciting games, including a logo reveal for Dragon Quest 12. One of the biggest surprises, however, may have been a Chibi-style and offline-only version of Dragon Quest 10, which offers players a chance to experience the world of Astoltia without being connected to the internet or worrying about MMO-like mechanics.

The developers stopped just short of announcing that this offline version of DQ10 would have a worldwide release. Given that the MMO version of Dragon Quest 10 has never come West, and that the livestream confirmed there are no plans to do so, then it stands to reason the offline version of the game would make the ideal choice for a worldwide release. So, despite there being no official confirmation at this time, it seems highly likely DQ10 Offline will come out internationally – even if it’s delayed somewhat.

Why Dragon Quest 10 Offline Needs A Global Release

An offline version of Dragon Quest 10 has been the subject of speculation ever since developers mentioned it in 2018. However, now those hopes have come to fruition, even if a global release isn’t confirmed just yet. It makes sense the offline version of DQ10 is being made for this reason, even if it wasn’t announced for a simultaneous, global release like Dragon Quest 12 or DQ Treasures.

The biggest factor here may be localization. Dragon Quest 10 is huge, with numerous expansions that are all the lengths of full games. The localization process for this will be astounding, which may be why developers are hesitant to mention a release outside of Japan at this time. What seems more likely is that this offline version of DQ10 will get released worldwide at a later date, once the in-depth localization process has had time to be completed.

While this may still be disappointing news for the many fans who play Dragon Quest 10 outside of Japan and have dreamed for a localized version of the MMO, the new offline-only DQ10 is still promising. The game will hopefully come out globally at some point, even if the worldwide release of Dragon Quest 10’s offline version is delayed by a bit. Perhaps fans won’t have to wait too long to know for sure, since Square Enix will be presenting at E3 in June.
