Why Kill Bill 3 Wouldn’t Be Tarantino’s Final Movie

With a lot of buzz about a possible Kill Bill 3, fans are worried it would mean the last of Quentin Tarantino’s movies – here’s why it wouldn’t be his official 10th and final film. The auteur director has put out some of the most controversial, cult classic, and highly profitable movies of all time since his debut in 1992. So far, Tarantino’s list of directed films includes Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, Kill Bill Vol. 1, Kill Bill Vol. 2, Death Proof, Inglourious Basterds, Django Unchained, The Hateful Eight, and most recently Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Ever since Kill Bill Vol. 2’s conclusion, fans have been wondering about the possibility of a sequel, with the consensus that it wouldn’t be made until years in the future. The possibility of a third entry into Tarantino’s Kill Bill movies comes from a line early in the first installment when The Bride/Beatrix Kiddo tells Vernita Green’s daughter, after she just killed her mother, that if she’s still bitter about the situation when she grows up, she can come find her. The setup insinuates a similar story for the third Kill Bill where Vernita’s daughter will now be in her early 20’s and a trained assassin, tracking down Beatrix to kill her as revenge. It’s also surmised that Beatrix and Bill’s daughter B.B., also grown up in her 20’s, would have inherited her parents’ skills with a sword and fight Vernita’s daughter to the death. Certain fans have demanded that Kill Bill is over because Bill is dead, but it doesn’t mean the title can’t change to Kill Bill’s Daughter (double entendre).

Since Tarantino has infamously declared he will only make 10 films, the remaining number is winding down considering 2019’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was his ninth. On the other hand, Tarantino technically has made 10 movies; he just counts the two Kill Bill movies as one on his list because he originally intended them to be a single, long film. Since the Kill Bill movies only count as one, it’s likely he would put a third into the same category and label it an extension of the first two. If he counts Kill Bill as one property since it’s the only true Tarantino project with sequels, there’s no reason he would consider Vol. 3 as a separate entity. Thus, Kill Bill 3 wouldn’t count as his 10th and final movie.

Tarantino has been vocal about capping his directorial career at 10 movies, citing how many of his director heroes put out incredible movies early in their career, then finished on poorly executed flops. He also embraces originality in films, though of course when they’re spruced with homages to films of past eras, so a final movie that is a sequel to a supposed finished series from over a decade ago doesn’t seem to fit the finale that Tarantino envisions. If Tarantino were to make a third Kill Bill, it’s more than likely he wouldn’t count it as his 10th because it doesn’t represent a new subject. Tarantino is one of the biggest cinephiles in Hollywood, so fans can expect him to go out with a bang that sums up his 30-year career, not just a sequel.

Additionally, Tarantino has given rumors of a third Kill Bill some water, which suggests he truly wouldn’t consider it his last film. In recent interviews promoting his OUATIH book, Tarantino revealed he would likely cast Maya Hawke, Uma Thurman’s real daughter, as The Bride and Bill’s daughter B.B. Since spending time with Hawke as an infant was what made him change his mind about B.B. fate in Vol. 2, her involvement makes the most sense. Further rumors have come from the original Kill Bill cast like Vivica A. Fox (Vernita Green), who explained if the original actress wasn’t available, she would want Zendaya to play the grown-up role of her daughter. Considering Maya Hawke and Zendaya are two of the most bankable young actresses at the moment, casting them in Kill Bill 3 would make for an amazing Tarantino sequel.
