Why The Matrixs Carrie Anne Moss Refused To Take A Pic With A Fan

The Matrix star Carrie-Anne Moss has revealed why she once refused to take a picture with a fan. Moss is arguably best known for her role as Trinity in the iconic sci-fi franchise, which dates back to 1999. She will return to her role later this year when The Matrix Resurrections premieres. The film is directed by original Matrix co-director Lana Wachowski.

Moss helped kick off The Matrix series back in 1999 under the direction of the Wachowskis (sisters Lana and Lilly co-directed and co-wrote the original Matrix trilogy). Taking on the role of Trinity, she portrayed the hero as a former hacker turned digital superhero with a knack for martial arts, high-powered firearms, and skin-tight black leather. Trinity remained one of the central heroes of the series, as well as the main love interest of Neo (Keanu Reeves), throughout the run of the trilogy, culminating in her tragic death at the end of The Matrix Revolutions. However, the character is set to return with the upcoming release of The Matrix Resurrections, though the exact nature of her revival remains unclear at this time.

Trinity quickly became an icon upon her debut back in 1999, and one of her most beloved moments in the franchise is the legendary “dodge this” line in which she gets the drop on an Agent and shoots him in the back of the head after Neo shows off his impressive bullet-time moves. However, in an interview with EW, Carrie-Anne Moss revealed that she actually once refused to take a photo with a fan when they asked her to recreate the “dodge this” moment for the photo opp. Moss said:

I did have someone just recently ask for a picture and they asked if I could do ‘Dodge this.’ I thought about it for a second and was like, ‘No.’

The Matrix franchise has some notable iconic lines and moments, and there’s a strong argument to be made that “dodge this” is the most well-known Trinity line from the entire franchise. It has often been imitated by fans looking to recreate legendary moments from the film – particularly the first film, which arguably defined a generation. “Dodge this” not only solidified Trinity as one of the franchise’s coolest characters, but it also ensured Carrie-Anne Moss’ place as an action icon.

At the end of the day, it’s difficult to know why Carrie-Anne Moss did not respond well to the “dodge this” request from the fan. That said, at the end of the day it is her right to refuse a photo with a fan, so the full story behind the encounter may never be revealed. As for the future of Trinity in the beloved sci-fi franchise, The Matrix will return stronger than ever when The Matrix Resurrections will hit theaters later this month on December 22.
