Will Minecrafts Temperature Clashes Be Fixed Before Caves & Cliffs Part 2

With the second half of Minecraft’s Caves & Cliffs update coming sometime this year, the window is narrowing for Mojang Studios to fix the bugs remaining in its experimental snapshot versions. One of the more interesting and pervasive bugs in Minecraft Caves & Cliffs Part 2 is its sudden, temperature-clashing biome changes.

The latest snapshot, Minecraft 1.18 experimental snapshot 3, was released in August for both the Java and Bedrock editions of the game. With it, players can try out the new world generation system, including increased world height and depth. It also introduces several new biomes and mechanics from Minecraft Caves & Cliffs Part 2, which is set to fully release during the 2021 holiday season.

Whereas Caves & Cliffs Part 1, which was released in June 2021, brought with it new Minecraft items and mobs, the latter half is set to completely overhaul most of the base game. As such, the experimental snapshot doesn’t currently work with existing worlds, and players will have to create new ones to test the update. Mojang Studios has confirmed, however, that the official Caves & Cliffs Part 2 release will be fully compatible with existing worlds from version 1.17.

Minecraft’s New Snapshot Doesn’t Remove Temperature Clashes

Alongside other changes, Minecraft 1.18 experimental snapshot 3 tweaked some of the problems that arose with the previous experimental snapshot’s implementation of Caves & Cliffs Part 2, including the sudden biome changes. Occurring because of the new biomes and world generation, this would at times cause the experimental snapshot’s Snowy Peak biome to spawn in a Desert, breaking the immersion of the game’s natural-feeling world. One of the new fixes helped to partially resolve this “temperature clash” problem: Biome placement was tweaked to both allow microbiomes to generate in matching temperatures and lessen the chance of severe clashing. The problem still happens, albeit not as often.

It’s unclear whether the issue will be completely fixed before the official release of Minecraft Caves & Cliffs Part 2, though the answer likely largely depend on when the update actually comes out. Currently, it has no specific release date. The sooner the update is released, the less likely temperature clashes are to be entirely removed. If Caves & Cliffs Part 2 doesn’t come out until later on in the winter, though, the developers should have more time to eliminate the problem. There’s also the possibility Mojang Studios will deliberately leave in a small chance for temperature clashes to occur in order to encourage diversity in world generation, but, thus far, the studio hasn’t confirmed whether the feature will play a role in the future of Minecraft.
