Working Models Of Jeff Bezos Penis Rocket Cost $69 (Not A Joke)

Jeff Bezos, founder of Blue Origin and noted hair-not-haver, flew to space recently, and now you can buy the phallic rocket he rode for a cool $69. Blue Origin was steadily working toward the goal of the first space tourism flight for many years. It finally realized that dream when it sent Jeff Bezos and three others to the edge of space. There’s quite a bit of debate over whether the capsule actually made it into space, but we’ll leave that argument for another day.

The mission was a success, with the four “astronauts” enjoying a few minutes of weightlessness before strapping back into their seats for the ride back home. It was the first in what Blue Origin hopes will be many space tourism flights, with wealthy astronaut wannabes throwing down huge chunks of cash for the chance to see Earth from the outside. We’ll have to wait and see just how successful the venture is, but Blue Origin will likely make most of its money through partnerships with scientific organizations and NASA, not relying heavily on rich flyboys to pad its bottom line.

Hobby rocket maker Estes, partnering with Blue Origin, produced a 1:66 scale model of the New Shepard rocket that Bezos and his peers rode into the heavens. Like other hobby rockets, the model can be fitted with an engine that, when ignited, will launch it hundreds of feet into the air. The rocket looks just like the real deal… so it looks a lot like a penis. The company also chose to price the phallic spacecraft at $69, suggesting that the planning meeting for this venture was full of laughter and snickering.

They Knew What They Were Doing

The pre-order page for the rocket is already live and Estes even put together a nice little promo video which you can watch below. Everything about the model mimics the real thing, and Estes plays it cool, never hinting that the company knew exactly what it was doing when it decided on the $69 price point. In any case, the model rocket is a lot like all the other model rockets that hobbyists have been firing off for literally decades now. If you’re a Blue Origin superfan, it might be for you, or maybe you want to give it as a gag gift, which would also be appropriate.

Blue Origin is desperately trying to catch up to SpaceX in the private space race. SpaceX and NASA have been very chummy as of late and Blue Origin isn’t too happy about it. The company has contracts with NASA for a variety of things, but it wants a larger role in the future of the U.S. space program, and it’s resorted to some very odd tactics to express its displeasure. Whining about not getting contracts probably won’t get Jeff Bezos and his space company anywhere, but at least they have a neat little rocket to sell you.
