Video game Brawlhalla is receiving four new characters from an unexpected source, as several prominent WWE Superstars will be coming to the title soon as part of a crossover event with SummerSlam.

Brawlhalla is a free-to-play fighting game that is similar to the Super Smash Bros. series, as the objective is to knock the enemy off the side of the stage, with the characters being pushed back further based on the amount of damage they have taken. Brawlhalla has received positive reviews from critics and has earned a sizable competitive scene of its own. The cast of Brawlhalla mostly consists of original characters, but there have been a few crossovers with other franchises in the past. Rayman is one of the playable characters in the game, while there have been skins for the original cast members that are based on characters from Adventure Time, Hellboy, and Shovel Knight.

The official Brawlhalla YouTube released an announcement video for the next four characters who will be added to the game in the form of skins for existing characters. The 3.47 patch for Brawlhalla will add Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, John Cena, Becky Lynch, and Xavier Woods. The Rock’s attacks involve summoning a flaming bull made of magma, Woods’ attacks allow him to summon the other members of the New Day for assistance, Lynch’s moves allow her to summon a burning fist made of green fire, while Cena can use camera flashes and fog as part of his move set. The WWE characters will join Brawlhalla as part of an in-game event related to the upcoming SummerSlam pay-per-view and fans will be available to purchase them for 300 Mammoth coins each after the event concludes.

The new patch for Brawlhalla will also add the Brawldown mode, which is set in a WWE ring and gives the players folding chairs and tables to use in battle. The ring ropes will also have their own physics, which the player can throw enemies into in order to send them flying back. Brawlhalla has also revealed that the next patch will also bring several balance changes to the items in the game, as well as changing some of the attributes and moves of Azoth, Isaiah, Petra, Rayman, Teros, and Yumiko.

It has become a trend for fighting games to include crossovers from different series, such as Negan from The Walking Dead appearing in Tekken 7 as a playable character, the horror movie characters that joined Mortal Kombat X (such as Leatherface and the Xenomorph), or some of the surprising new entries to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. It’s rare for fighting game characters to be based on real people (even if they are portraying characters), but the WWE Superstars are fitting in surprisingly well with the aesthetic and fast-paced action of Brawlhalla.
