Xbox is bringing its new Cloud Gaming service to Windows 10 PCs in a new beta. Microsoft launched its experimental Project xCloud on tablets and Android-supported mobile phones last September, allowing players to take their Xbox Game Pass titles with them on the go.

Since then, Xbox has announced that it will be branching out its Cloud Gaming services to Apple devices and Windows 10 PCs, along with custom Xbox Series X hardware. There are even rumors that Xbox Cloud Gaming could be made available on rival consoles like the Nintendo Switch or PlayStation 5. Microsoft has become increasingly more open to collaborating with both of its rivals in the console war. However, Nintendo’s insistence that it won’t be including any streaming services on the Switch puts this in doubt.

Xbox announced that it will be launching an Xbox Cloud Gaming beta test for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members who are a part of the Xbox Insider program starting today. This beta test is available in 22 countries and will allow participants to stream over 100 Xbox titles through the Xbox App on Windows 10, regardless of technical capabilities, as long as it is connected to the internet via a compatible Blu-Tooth or USB router. Other handy features that are included consist of an easy-to-access controller and network status information, social media compatibility that makes it easier to stay connected to friends while playing, and the ability to invite people to join you in a game – even if they don’t have the game in question installed on their system.

The lifeblood fueling Xbox Cloud Gaming is Xbox Game Pass, which gives players access to hundreds of Xbox titles (both smaller indie games and massive triple-A blockbusters) for a monthly fee. New games are added to this list every month, with August’s line-up consisting of 2018’s critically-acclaimed roguelike Hades, the first and third Skate games, and various Dirt titles. Additionally, Xbox has made several cross-promotional deals with Game Pass over the past few years, gifting new Xbox Game Pass subscribers with a free month of Spotify or Disney+ with an Ultimate membership.

Being able to stream all of this content without having to worry about needing the latest hardware is certainly appealing for gamers on a budget, so it will be interesting to see how this new Xbox Cloud Gaming beta test will work out for Windows 10 owners. The trail is live now, so interested players who live in any of the participating countries can access their Xbox App to try out Xbox Cloud Gaming for themselves.
