It’s Black History Month, and all February long, Xbox is celebrating by amplifying Black voices in gaming. Not only that, but games like Minecraft and Halo are releasing Black History content and Xbox has released several new avatar items.

Xbox’s Twitch channel will feature black content creators all week long to start off Black History Month. Yesterday was CTRLALTQuinn, while today is KingPhoenix443 playing Halo Infinite. Tomorrow will be KarimCheese in Apex Legends, Thursday brings MusicMan1017 in Minecraft, and Friday brings Stealth for another casual Minecraft session.

Speaking of Minecraft, both the regular game and Minecraft: Education Edition are now offering Lessons In Good Trouble, “a collection of eight interactive Minecraft worlds and lessons on social movements throughout history including the Civil Rights Movement and Black Lives Matter as well as lessons about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the origins of Juneteenth.” Lessons In Good Trouble is available as a free demo in Minecraft: Education Edition (which you can download here), or as part of the Education Collection in the Minecraft Marketplace.

In other Xbox games, Halo Infinite now has a Black History Month emblem and nameplate available for anyone who logs into the game in the month of February. Age of Empires has updated its site with information on Black figures in American history, including Peter Salem, Crispus Attucks, and Harriet Tubman. And Forza is hosting a Black History Month livery contest for Forza Horizon 5, Forza Horizon 4, and Forza Motorsport 7, with the winner getting their livery in-game (and some in-game credits).

On the development side, Xbox has announced plans to host a presentation at GDC this March. Titled “The New Face of Gaming,” the showcase will feature a diverse group of game developers at Xbox Studios, including senior program manager Calicia Johnson, software engineer Keirten Nivol, and marketing manager Austin Joseph. They’ll share their stories of diversity at Xbox, which are also being shared by Xbox Ambassadors here.

Xbox is also suggesting several games for Black History Month, including Marvel’s Avengers (especially the War for Wakanda update), Before I Forget, Aerial_Knight’s Never Yield, and Boyfriend Dungeon. And don’t forget your Black History Month Xbox Avatar items which are available now in the shop alongside a colorful new theme.
