Xbox skin artist Xbox Pope has changed teams by designing a mockup of what a Mortal Kombat skin would look like on the next gen PS5 console. Pope has unintentionally caused a ripple of change within the gaming community that strives to get rid of the traditional console war mentality.

The PS5 Mortal Kombat customization gives a fantastic glow and ancient atmosphere to the next gen tower. The signature dragon king Onaga is featured on the side of the console, designed in a more traditional style that also features the MK logo in gold towards the top right. The deep gold mixed with the tints of blue from the dragon work beautifully together, and the controller is even better. The pristine white of the PS5 controller is nowhere to be seen in this design as it has been replaced by patterns of the dragon’s body printed over another gold background that’s heading more towards a caramel color. The MK logo remains gold in the middle of the touch pad that does not show if it’s debossed or not.

Co-creator of Mortal Kombat Ed Boon retweeted Pope’s concept art while giving nothing but praise towards the artist’s creativity. Boon is also an advocate for removing barriers between the Xbox and PlayStation communities. Supporting the #GivePeaceAChance hashtag, Pope’s open-mindedness towards designing for Sony has inspired members of the gaming community to put aside their differences and essentially “play together.” Fans of the artist’s customization marveled over his recent work, while encouraging Sony to take him up on his offer.

Pope has also designed an Xbox Series X variant of his Mortal Kombat design that really makes the console appear to be some sort of ancient monolith. Onaga remains on this console by wrapping around the rectangular block as well as the paired controller. Both pieces are wonderful collectors items that would look stunning on any gamer’s shelf.

If Xbox Pope does decide to play for both teams, then he will obviously need to think about changing his social media handle as well as his logo. His Pope logo features a green, smiling character wearing a traditional mitre that features Xbox’s ‘X’. Followers will be keeping their eyes peeled over the next couple of weeks to watch for that logo changing to show a little more blue.
