Animal Crossing: New Horizons has had its fair share of glitches. While some have been to the detriment of players, this terraforming glitch is something that is getting island designers really excited.
After completing all of the major building in New Horizons, players are given a NookPhone upgrade that allows them to plaster patterns on the ground and create new cliff faces and water features. These new building features allow players to essentially redo huge swaths of their islands, expanding the river ways and creating waterfalls, even raising up sections of the island.
The only problem with these features—aside from how much time it takes to actually build and design all of these new things to perfection—is there is a height cap. Using the cliff builder, players can only build their islands up to a third level. But thanks to some diligent island designers, a fourth level is a possible with this hack.
Gaming blog Animal Crossing World has cracked the fourth level code so that anyone can do it. The process is a bit meticulous, but getting the perfect island is worth a little extra time. In order to access the fourth level, all you need is the NookPhone update and a candle. Or a mug. Or really any piece of furniture that only takes up a 1×1 block of space.
The first step is simple, create an upside down 2×2 L-shaped hole in your highest tier, going from north to south. Next, round out the angled part of the L with just one extra swing of the shovel, and you should end up with what’s basically a box with one side of it curved in. Don’t worry, there are pictures for reference.
The next two steps are simple enough, but will probably take the most time to get right. Put your small item in the middle of the opening, so you can’t escape until you get it right; it must be in the middle of four tiles or the glitch will not work. Now for the clincher, with your avatar firmly trapped in this little cliff construction area, you have to face the south east corner of the cliffs while pressing A to dig another cliff, if you get the timing just right you’ll create a new platform under your feet that will rocket you up to the illusive fourth level. After all of this is done, the last thing to do is decorate!
For gamers who have been playing New Horizons since March, things might be getting a little stale with nothing left to build or decorate. Thanks to this glitch, the sky is the limit!
