EA is adding something new to Star Wars: Battlefront II and it might be worse than loot boxes, depending on your opinion of the prequel trilogy, as the younger version of Anakin Skywalker from Revenge of the Sith will be a playable hero in the next update to the game.

Star Wars: Battlefront II has kept on trucking, despite all of the controversy surrounding its initial release and the game has had a steady flow of new content since 2017.

EA has updated the Star Wars: Battlefront II roadmap on their website, which keeps track of all of the upcoming downloadable content that will be available for the game. The roadmap now includes information for February 2019, which says that Anakin Skywalker will be joining the game as a hero unit. A trailer for Anakin’s appearance in the game has also been made available on Twitter (as seen below.)

Anakin Skywalker will be added to the game as part of The Chosen One update, which will also include a new non-linear mode and a new set of cosmetic skins based on the 501st Legion of Clone Troopers. The significance of adding the 501st Legion alongside Anakin Skywalker is that Anakin served as their General during the Clone Wars and they would later join him in the purge of the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. The 501st remained at Anakin’s side after he became Darth Vader, where they gained the nickname of “Vader’s Fist.”

The Chosen One update is currently the last item on the Star Wars: Battlefront II roadmap, but EA confirms at the bottom of the document that more new content and features are due to arrive in the future.

Star Wars Battlefront II had a rocky start (to say the least) and ended up on a lot of “Worst Game of the Year” lists due to the terrible in-game monetization practices that plagued the game from launch. Developer DICE has refused to give on the game and it has since been retooled following fan backlash and the game is far less grindy than it was before, which means that it might be worth checking Battlefront II out now that the worst of the microtransactions are gone.

The Chosen One update for Star Wars: Battlefront II will be available to download on February 27th.
