YouTube creator Aero has predicted in one of his videos that a Nintendo Direct will be shown very soon, as multiple new games appear on GameStop’s catalog. The YouTuber also pegged the Direct release for July 20 following the rumor that has been circulating since June.
Aero kicked the video off by introducing the possibility of a Nintendo Direct happening this month following a leak that claimed Nintendo would surely be hosting a full 2020 direct. Aero addressed how fans had been waiting for a main Nintendo Direct show that hasn’t happened for almost a year, not including the Mini Direct that showcased back in March.
He continued to point out that Nintendo have had a rather “dry” year with no big releases other than Animal Crossing: New Horizons at the start of the year and the definitive edition of Xenoblade Chronicles that is a remake of the Wii version. The only other release for Nintendo that Mario fans are looking forward to is Paper Mario The Origami King.
The YouTuber explained that there are small things happening behind the scenes that gamers are picking up on and using that information to fuel the rumor of a Direct coming soon. He highlighted GameStop’s internal system that has apparently had a number of placeholder titles appear as SKU’s for the Nintendo Switch that is a big hint. Allegedly, this has happened before when titles would appear in GameStop’s stock immediately before a Direct was about to drop.
Aero also pointed out @KeliosFR on Twitter who predicted the last Nintendo Direct Mini 6 weeks before it was released in March and now predicts that there will be Nintendo Direct on July 20. Kelios is a professional in the industry that predicted Mini Direct’s exact date on a website known as ResetEra that only allows users with a professional email to join. Many fake leakers will create multiple social media accounts and post different dates on each account pertaining to when they think a Direct will happen. Whatever account has posted the correct date will remain on the internet while the other accounts that predicted wrongly would be deleted.
Aero mentioned that July 20 falls on a Monday and looking through Nintendo’s past directs suggests that the company rarely hosts at the start of the week. However, Nintendo could announce the Direct on Monday which may lead to a promising July and perhaps a look at The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2.
