Zynga’s New Game, Word Pop, Is An Amazon Alexa Exclusive
Zynga has announced a brand new game that takes the popular Words With Friends game and ropes Amazon Alexa in for the ride.

Video game development company Zynga has just announced its latest game – Words With Friends Word Pop, also known as Word Pop, a brand new take on the Scrabble-like game that ropes your Amazon Alexa in for the play.
Word Pop is a voice-based word creation game that features your Amazon Alexa at the head of the action. Alexa will challenge players to create as many words as they can from their six-letter bank in one minute. Players have to say or spell their words out loud, and scores are accumulated based on how many words they are able to create per session, as well as the length of each of the individual words.
To begin a game, players simply have to say “Alexa, open Word Pop,” to any Alexa device. This includes the Amazon Echo Show and Echo Dot as well.
Zynga President of Publishing Bernard Kim spoke excitedly about the game launch, saying “I’m thrilled that by adding Word Pop to the Words With Friends family, players will be able to test and improve their word skills, making them even better Words With Friends players. The beauty of Words With Friends is that even after ten years, we’re still discovering new ways for the franchise to bring joy to players around the world. We’re dedicated to experimenting with services such as Alexa and game modes like Word Pop, which gives players a familiar, yet novel experience.”
The director behind Alexa, Steve Bernstein, also commented on the new game and the collaboration with Zynga: “We’re very excited to have a global leader in mobile games like Zynga create a new voice-based game based on such an entertaining franchise like Words With Friends. Customers love playing games on Alexa and we’re excited to bring this new experience to them, testing their word knowledge in a fun and challenging way.”
This is not the first time Alexa has partnered with a company to deliver a new way to play games. Just last fall, Alexa announced a collaboration between Ticket to Ride publisher Days of Wonder which introduced a feature that allowed the virtual assistant to act as a moderator or guide while playing the popular board game.
Word Pop is available now, exclusively through Amazon Alexa.
