10 Pokemon Designs That Are Just Too Weird

Considering the fact that there are several hundred Pokémon that have been added into the franchise since its start in the 1990s, it’s no surprise that the creators have had to start getting pretty unique with their designs. The first Pokémon that many people think of have petty normal designs. Things like caterpillars, rats, and fire-breathing dragons. But, there are some Pokémon that are just a little weirder.

A lot of Pokémon designs are really cool and unique, but some of them are just too weird. While we love the creativity they put into their designs, we have to admit that they’ve gone a little too far with making some of these Pokémon way too strange.

10 Comfey

10 Pokemon Designs That Are Just Too Weird

Comfey is a Fairy-type Pokémon that was introduced in Generation VII. Generation VII is the home to the Alola region, a region in the Pokémon world that is basically a tropical island, similar to Hawaii. Because of the fact that the Alola region is such a tropical region, it makes perfect sense for the Pokémon to be super colorful, bright, and unique. Although Comfey definitely fits in with the Alola region, this Pokémon is just too weird.

Comfey is basically a lei come to life. Comfey is made up of flowers that have been strung together and looks exactly like a lei that people wear in Hawaii. Pretty fitting for the Alola region, right? Comfey is definitely unique and perfect for this region, but also super weird.

9 Pineco

Pineco is a Pokémon that was introduced in Generation II of the Pokémon franchise. True to its name, this Bug-type Pokémon basically looks like a pinecone with eyes. This Pokémon lives in forests and has no limbs or mouth, just a single spike at the top of its head. This Pokémon defends itself by spitting out a substance that becomes hard when it comes into contact with the air.

There are a lot of Pokémon that are designed to look like animals and even some that are designed to look like inanimate objects. Things like flowers, sandcastles, and even ice cream cones appear as Pokémon. There’s no denying that a pinecone Pokémon is unique, but this Pokémon is one that takes the unique design idea way too far and is just a little weird.

8 Mimikyu

10 Pokemon Designs That Are Just Too Weird

No, this isn’t some kind of badly drawn Pikachu. This is an actual Pokémon that was introduced in Generation VII. Mimikyu is a dual-type Ghost/Fairy Pokémon that looks oddly familiar. This Pokémon wears a rag that has been doodled on to make it look like Pikachu, a Pokémon from the first generation of the Pokémon franchise. No one knows what exactly is going on underneath this rag.

Mimikyu wears this Pikachu disguise because of the popularity of that original Pokémon. It believes that disguising itself as Pikachu would make people love it. While that story is interesting, the fact that it looks like a weird version of Pikachu makes this Pokémon way too weird.

7 Mr. Mime

10 Pokemon Designs That Are Just Too Weird

Mr. Mime is a Pokémon that was introduced in Generation I as a Psychic-type Pokémon. After Generation VI when the Fairy-type was introduced, this Pokémon became a dual-type Psychic/Fairy Pokémon. Mr. Mime is a humanoid Pokémon that walks on two legs, has blue growths that come out of the sides of its head like hair, and pink balls all over its body.

Mr. Mime is the focus of different myths and urban legends in the Pokémon fandom because of its super human-like appearance. It’s hard to deny that there seems to be something weird about this Pokémon. While most Pokémon are animals, insects, and stuff like that, this one looking so much like a person is just weird.

6 Klefki

10 Pokemon Designs That Are Just Too Weird

Some Pokémon look like animals, some like insects, and some that actually look like people. Then, there are some Pokémon that don’t fit any of those categories. Some of those are really cool and unique while others are strange. Klefki is a Pokémon that was introduced in Generation VI and doesn’t fit into any of the normal Pokémon categories. It’s not an animal, an insect, or even a semi-humanoid Pokémon.

Klefki is a Pokémon that is shaped like a keyring with four different keys on it. Klefki is known to sneak into the homes of people that live near where it is and steal their keys so it can keep them. No one really knows why Klefki does this and its strange behavior just makes the fact that this Pokémon is shaped like a keyring even weirder.

5 Alcremie

10 Pokemon Designs That Are Just Too Weird

Alcremie is one of the brand new Pokémon that is set to be released with Generation VIII of the Pokémon franchise with the release of Pokémon Sword/Shield. There hasn’t been a lot revealed about the new Pokémon that have been announced, but the design of Alcremie already has Pokémon fans scratching their heads.

While food Pokémon are definitely not all that new to the Pokémon franchise, that doesn’t mean that Alcremie isn’t still pretty unusual. Alcremie is designed to look like a pile of whipped cream with two strawberries on either side of its head. This Pokémon may look delicious, but it’s still super strange.

4 Vanilluxe

10 Pokemon Designs That Are Just Too Weird

Vanilluxe is the final form of Vanillite and was introduced in Generation V. All of the Pokémon in Vanillite’s evolutionary chain are super strange and Vanilluxe is no exception. Vanilluxe is a Pokémon that is designed to look like an ice cream cone with two scoops of ice cream sitting side by side.

This Ice-type Pokémon can create snow and ice out of the huge amounts of water that it ingests, making it really popular with Pokémon Trainers that are looking to cool down. This Pokémon is made of two Vanillish that were melted and frozen back together. This Pokémon is unique but weird.

3 Unown

10 Pokemon Designs That Are Just Too Weird

Unown is a Psychic-type Pokémon that was introduced in Generation II of the Pokémon franchise. Unown isn’t a Pokémon that evolves into or up from any other Pokémon in the franchise, but that doesn’t mean that every Unown is the same. There are several different shapes that this Pokémon can appear as. These shapes are designed to look like all the different letters of the Latin alphabet, plus a few marks of punctuation.

We have to admit that a unique Pokémon that is designed to look like letters and punctuation is unique and totally different from anything else in the Pokémon franchise, it’s definitely a little strange. Paired with the weird behavior that this rare Pokémon is known for exhibiting, it all makes for a really strange Pokémon design.

2 Exeggcute

10 Pokemon Designs That Are Just Too Weird

Exeggcute is a Pokémon that was introduced in Generation I of the Pokémon franchise. Exeggcute is a dual-type Grass/Psychic Pokémon and the first Pokémon in the evolutionary chain of Exeggutor. Exeggcute is designed to look like a group of five or six different eggs, each with its own face. Some of the eggs are cracked and one of them even has a large hole in the top of its head.

Despite the fact that this Pokémon looks like a group of eggs, the fact that it evolves up into Exeggutor shows that this Pokémon is definitely closer to a group of seeds than eggs. This group of Pokémon is definitely different from others in the franchise, but a Pokémon that looks like a bunch of cracked eggs laying on the ground is pretty weird.

1 Jynx

Jynx is a dual-type Ice/Psychic Pokémon that was introduced in the first generation of the Pokémon franchise. Although many people think of the later generations of Pokémon when they think of strange Pokémon designs, Jynx is definitely one of the weirder ones from Generation I.

Jynx is a humanoid Pokémon that has long, blonde hair, two arms, and makes noises that almost sound like a human speaking, but no one can decipher what it is saying. This Pokémon wears a long, red dress and is not shown to have feet underneath it. Jynx was designed to look like Yamauba and Yuki-onna, figures from Japanese mythology.
