DC’s Black Adam producer Hiram Garcia hints a crossover with Wonder Woman will happen, and promises it’ll be awesome. Black Adam is an upcoming DC Extended Universe film based on the comics character and is slated for a July 2022 release. The film will star Dwayne Johnson as the titular anti-hero, who has been preparing to portray the character since before 2017.

Fans got their first look at Johnson in the role when Black Adam’s teaser trailer was released at the DC Fandome back in October. The clip gave a hint of Black Adam’s powers, showing him catch a bullet and disintegrate enemies. Not much is known about the film’s plot, but the character is Shazam’s nemesis in the comics, with the two sporting similar abilities. Building on their rivalry from the source material, the upcoming DCEU entry has been described as a spin-off of Shazam!, so it looks certain the two films will be heavily linked.

Now, in an interview with Variety, Garcia sheds some light on future DCEU movie crossovers. When asked whether Wonder Woman and Black Adam would ever share the screen, the producer hints that fans will get to watch them face off against each other sometime in the future. He also indicates Gal Gadot’s character is one of the DCEU’s only superheroes strong enough to take on Johnson, and a head-to-head between the two would be “pretty awesome.” Check out Garcia’s full comments below:

I mean we’ve got to see [Black Adam and Wonder Woman] together somehow… to see Wonder Woman and Black Adam share the screen is going to be pretty awesome. And I honestly feel like Wonder Woman is one of the few superheroes that can go toe-to-toe with Black Adam, so that, even more so, we need to see it. We want to see it!

DCEU fans should be tantalized by the prospect of seeing Black Adam versus Wonder Woman on the big screen. Johnson has previously explained that Black Adam will shake up the hierarchy of power within the DCEU, and while many naturally assume that Henry Cavill’s Superman remains at the top, Black Adam might be coming in at a close second. Wonder Woman, however, has been one of the DCEU’s most powerful characters since her introduction in 2017 and could rival him for that #2 slot, so a direct confrontation would be a great way to settle their placement in the overall power rankings.

Fans will have to remain patient for more news on the topic, though, as Diana Prince isn’t set to return to cinemas for awhile yet. Gadot recently confirmed that the script for Wonder Woman 3 is in production, but refused to give any indication of when her superheroine might return to theaters. With a lot still unconfirmed, DCEU fans will be keen to speculate on the future of the franchise, and how the introduction of Black Adam will impact the films after it.
