It seems that the Dead or Alive series may be attempting to shift to a new direction, as the infamous jiggle physics of the previous entries in the series are going to be considerably toned down in the upcoming Dead or Alive 6.

The director of Dead or Alive 6 (Yohei Shimbori) spoke to Game Informer during the recent E3 conference and clarified certain points about the new focus of the series and the shift in aesthetic among the female leads.

According to Yohei Shimbori, the next Dead or Alive title will have a much greater focus on the competitive aspects of the game, rather than for the fanservice that it has become known for. The intention is to make the series seem cool and mature, rather than simply titillating.

A lot of the revealing outfits that appeared in the previous games will still appear in Dead or Alive 6, but the actual mechanics that deal specifically with bouncing body parts will be toned down.

There is a competitive scene for the Dead or Alive series and the fighting mechanics are popular with a lot of gamers, but there is no denying the fact that the games sell themselves on the attractive female leads and their lack of clothing. Yohei Shimbori has promised that the next Dead or Alive game will be different.

When asked about the return of the fanservice clothes in the game’s upcoming DLC, Yohei Shimbori said that this will be up to the gamers and their opinions concerning the future of the series.

So, what are the chances of these changes being permanent? To answer that, all you need to do is go on PSN or the Microsoft Store and look at how much costume DLC is on sale for the older Dead or Alive titles. Team Ninja has clearly made a lot of cash over the years with their seemingly endless amounts of skimpy costume DLC that is available for the Dead or Alive ladies and they likely won’t abandon that business model for long.

Dead or Alive 6 is due to be released on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows during the first quarter of 2019.
