10 Life (1999) 6.8

Eddie Murphy teamed with another hugely successful comedian for the crime-comedy Life. Murphy and Martin Lawrence star as two men who are framed for murder in the 1930s and spend the next few decades of their lives forming and breaking and reforming their friendship behind bars.

Despite the premise, the movie is a surprisingly light and entertaining adventure. It is elevated by the incredible chemistry between Murphy and Lawrence in the lead roles, as well as a great supporting cast.

9 48 Hrs. (1982) – 6.9

Murphy returned to his biggest franchise with the follow-up to the massively successful animated adventure, Shrek. In this new adventure, Shrek and Fiona meet Fiona’s parents, the King and Queen who are not as welcoming of their new son-in-law as he’d hoped.

Trading Places was yet another hit buddy comedy with Murphy partnering with Dan Aykroyd this time around. The film tells the story of two heartless millionaires who have a bet in which the lives of an uptight stockbroker (Aykroyd) and a street con artist (Murphy) are switched.

This was another early role that proved Murphy was going to be a massive star. He steals every scene he’s in with his electrifying and hilarious performance. The movie itself is a fun ’80s romp with a great premise.
