It seems Animal Crossing becomes increasingly popular with every new title. New Horizons is close to the best-selling Switch game of all time, and the Animal Crossing franchise as a whole has become iconic in its own right, hosting some of the most recognizable characters in gaming. Although she was not in the first three mainline titles, Animal Crossing’s Isabelle has quickly become a fan favorite, earning her several crossovers and cameo appearances in other games.

First appearing in 2012’s Animal Crossing: New Leaf for the 3DS, Isabelle played the role of secretary to the player character, who was mayor of the town. In New Horizons, Isabelle works for Nook Inc. in the Resident Services building, making the daily announcements and assisting with various other island duties.

As a central figure in these games, Isabelle has become something of a mascot for Nintendo. She and other famous AC characters like Tom Nook and Resetti are frequently loaned out to other games as the inspiration for items, companions, or full-on playable characters. Animal Crossing Isabelle Cameos – Mario Kart 8

Isabelle began her racing career in the popular Mario Kart 8 on Wii U. She was a DLC character for the original release, coming to the game alongside the Animal Crossing Villager. Isabelle was then included by default in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on Switch.

Animal Crossing Isabelle Cameos – Miitopia

An Isabelle costume can be worn in Miitopia, provided players have one of her amiibo. Miitopia first came to the 3DS before being ported to the Switch in 2021. The playable characters are all Miis created or imported by the player, but different Nintendo costumes can be gained through Miitopia-compatible amiibo.

Animal Crossing Isabelle Cameos – Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate

Isabelle and Mr. Resetti were added to Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate on 3DS as costumes for the Palico companions in 2015. The Animal Crossing Monster Hunter crossover featured a unique quest as well, called Animal Crossing: Fisher King.

Animal Crossing Isabelle Cameos – Style Savvy: Fashion Forward

DLC brought outfits for Isabelle and Lottie, who first appeared in Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, to the fashion simulation title Style Savvy: Fashion Forward. Isabelle’s outfit can alternatively be unlocked through her amiibo.

Animal Crossing Isabelle Cameos – Super Mario Maker

Isabelle’s amiibo can also be used to unlock two costumes in the original Super Mario Maker for Wii U. Like other amiibo costumes, the Isabelle sprites can only be used in levels that use the original Super Mario Bros. style. The costumes can also be unlocked by completing specific challenges in Super Mario Maker.

Animal Crossing Isabelle Cameos – Super Smash Bros. 4

Isabelle’s first appearance in Super Smash Bros. came in the series’ fourth installment, which launched on the Wii U and 3DS. She is not a playable fighter in Super Smash Bros. 4 but an assist trophy, an item used to summon a random helper.

Animal Crossing Isabelle Cameos – Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Isabelle was upgraded to full-fledged fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, appearing in the original 69-fighter lineup. Sporting multiple costumes and a variety of unique moves, Isabelle once again appears with the Villager to represent Animal Crossing.

Animal Crossing Isabelle Cameos – Taiko no Tatsujin

Isabelle makes an appearance in Taiko no Tatsujin: Atsumete Tomodachi Daisakusen!. Using an Animal Crossing amiibo unlocks songs from the Animal Crossing: New Leaf soundtrack to be played in this Japanese rhythm game.

Although it took a few games for Isabelle to appear in Animal Crossing, she has now become one of the series’ most popular characters. Her frequent collaborations with other games prove Isabelle’s recognizability transcends just her home series.
