For Honor, developed and published by Ubisoft in 2017, will be free to play on PS4, Xbox One, and PC this weekend. The game, which allows players to take on the roles of soldiers, warriors, knights, samurai and vikings, is a third-person game that features campaign and multiplayer modes.

In the medieval fantasy game, players can choose a character from three different factions: the Iron Legion (Knights), the Warborn (Vikings), and the Dawn Empire (Samurai). A fourth faction, the Wu Lin – warriors from ancient China – was added in the Marching Fire expansion in October 2018.

All heroes have their own individual weapons, skills, and fighting styles. After certain actions – such as killing multiple enemies – players gain feats or additional perks, which can be used to gain extra points and strengths, enact arrow or a catapult attacks, or heal from wounds.

Since its release, Ubisoft has updated For Honor significantly. The company recently included the Year of the Reckoning expansion, which added new heroes, new loot, and a new battle pass system. Players who enjoy the game can take advantage of an 80% discount during the free weekend with the progress made in the trial carrying over.

For Honor, ranked 25th on Eurogamer’s list of the Top 50 Games of 2017, won the People’s Choice Award for Best Fighting Game in IGN’s Best of 2017 Awards. It also won Best PC Game and Best PlayStation 4 Game at Gamescom in 2016.
