Even though San Diego Comic-Con will be held at home this year, there will still be plenty of limited edition and exclusive perks to be grabbed — especially from Funko.

Because everything is still shut down and being postponed due to the global pandemic, one of the biggest Cons in the world is moving to a virtual platform. San Diego Comic-Con at home will be running from July 22 to July 26 and will still have all the greatest Con hits like panels and releases, but without the arena of people breathing on everyone for an entire weekend. Funko is doing their part in making this Con awesome by releasing two new figure sets from some classic franchises. The main event of these collectible drops being that Sonic and Pokémon are each getting special two pack releases.

These new Pokémon Funkos will be part of a pretty huge collection including three different variants of Pikachu and its baby form Pichu, all three Gen I starters, as well as Cubone, Eeveem, Mr. Mime, Rattata, Growlithe, Mewtwo, and Vulpix. But these SDCC @ home collectibles will be flocked — that is, velvety to the touch. While Mewtwo may not look like the kind of Pokémon that would have a fuzzy texture to it, Vulpix definitely does, so at least half of this release makes sense. Only a select few Pokémon Funko figures have flocked versions, and all of them (Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Charmander, Eevee and Pichu) have been widely used as the face of the franchise over the years.

For Sonic the Hedgehog, Tails and Super Silver will be getting their day in the sun. The additions to the Sonic collection will be joining the ranks of two different Sonic models — not including the special edition glow-in-the-dark and metallic Sonics — Shadow, Dr. Eggman, and Knuckles.

A few more figures to keep an eye out for are coming from animes, like Super Saiyan God Goku from Dragon Ball Super and Bakugo from My Hero Academia. Special Funkos are always a delight and something to look forward to and expanding on two of the most popular franchises out there is sure to go over really well with the nerds.
