Gaming Detail Hidden Character Details In Pokémon Sword & Shield

There are a plethora of character details to pick out in Pokémon Sword and Shield. Some are more noticeable than others, but they’re all fairly easy to overlook if one isn’t paying attention.

Small details like Marnie having a crown shaved into her head are inconsequential, while others provided significant foreshadowing missed by the majority of players. No matter the importance, these character details will have fans face-palming in disbelief they didn’t pick up on them before now.

Hop

Hop is named appropriately in reference to his hairstyle. The similarity between this boy’s head of hair and the hop plant used to brew beer is undeniable.

Leon

More fitting than the crown shaved into Marnie’s hairline is the crown design that laces the inside brim of Leon’s snapback cap. This subtle detail plays to Leon’s near royal status throughout Galar. Leon also wears a large fur-trimmed cape, reminiscent of what a King would wear. On the contrary, however, the patches sewn to the back of the cape appear to be Leon’s sponsors including Corviknight Taxi and the Gym League. The sword and shield emblazoned on Leon’s shirt vaguely emulate a faux-tuxedo T-shirt. Leon’s entire ensemble pulls together into a paradox of royalty meets advantageous youth; a pretty accurate depiction of the young Galar region Champion.

Professor Magnolia’s and Sonia’s relation is made clear multiple times. However Game Freak made a point to draw several parallels between the two. This is likely to accentuate the moment of significance when Magnolia passes her lab coat down to Sonia. From facial features and hair flips to characteristic movements, these characters’ similarities are unavoidable.

Opal

The parallels drawn between the Fairy-type Gym Leader Opal and the real-life Queen of England seem pretty evident. From their dignified demeanors to their preferred color schemes and extravagant headdresses, right down to the string of pearls and successors, there are some very direct comparisons between the two women.

Piers

The correlation between the Dark-type Gym Leader Piers and the Galarian Zigzagoon evolution line couldn’t be more clear. Piers and Obstagoon could easily moonlight as bandmates outside of battle. Not to mention Piers’ dreadlocks are so heavily inspired by Zigzagoon, it actually looks a bit like a trio of the little rascals have hitched a ride in his hair.

Oleana

Even though Miss Oleana is oozing bad-guy vibes the majority of fans somehow didn’t pick up on the nefarious intonation until the plot really got underway. But how? From her apathetic demeanor to all of the severe angles and color schemes, Oleana screams the stereotypical villain role.

Countless character details are hidden among most characters features and attire. While some seem like they should have been obvious from the start, it’s easy to get wrapped up in experiencing a new Pokémon region for the first time. But now that these comparisons have been made, some might be hard to unsee.
