8 Order Of The Phoenix

After a fight with the Death Eaters, in which Harry’s godfather Sirius is killed, Harry is surprisingly cheery during the ending of Order of the Phoenix. As he and his friends leave Hogwarts, he comments how having friends is what puts him at an advantage over Voldemort.

While this ending is good, many may consider it to be a little cheesy. Since the film takes a much darker turn in comparison to the earlier ones in the series, this overtly optimistic ending feels a little out of place. But it’s still great to see many of the main characters together, and it builds the anticipation for a fight with the Death Eaters that is soon to come.

7 Half-Blood Prince

This ending is good if a little uneventful. Harry and Hermione talk on one of the Hogwarts towers, and the audience is able to feel the effect that Dumbledore’s death has had on the two characters. The pair then discuss how they plan to fight Voldemort next year. While the Order of the Phoenix features pretty powerful members that could support them, it’s clear that the Golden Trio will be taking this journey alone, so it builds anticipation for the final two films.

However, Ron is strangely missing for most of this scene, which makes it feel a little incomplete. Plus, there are no really iconic lines in this ending, but it’s still a solid scene overall.

6 Deathly Hallows: Part 1

Deathly Hallows: Part 1 feels consistently tense and action-packed. The ending scene follows just after Dobby’s death, and it makes the film’s events seem even grimmer. Voldemort reaches Dumbledore’s grave, manages to take the Elder Wand for himself, and shoots it up at the sky.

It’s very different for the films to end on a character other than Harry, but since this was the part of the franchise where Voldemort was the most powerful, this change makes sense. The switch also works to make the audience feel even more uneasy, as they will likely wonder what will happen in the franchise’s finale.

5 Goblet Of Fire

This ending feels right for the jam-packed film that was Goblet of Fire, as so much happens within it. The two competing wizarding schools leave, and Hermione says goodbye to Viktor Krum, which involves him asking her to write to him. This ending, therefore, shows some of Ron’s worst fears about his relationship with Hermione, which becomes more prominent in the next few films.

The Golden Trio talks about writing to one another over the summer, which gives some hope to the sense of foreboding they now feel at Voldemort’s return. The ending is ominous but still heartfelt, perfectly reflecting the later films of the franchise.

4 Prisoner Of Azkaban

Since the Prisoner of Azkaban has plenty of funny quotes and moments, so it’s no surprise that the film ends with a delightfully chaotic moment too. Harry receives a firebolt from Sirius, and the entire school races outside to watch him fly it. The broomstick speeds off, and as Harry races across the lake, he suddenly stops in an iconic freeze-frame of him yelling out in joy.

The ending feels very different from others in the series, so some viewers may not like it, but no one can deny that it’s a memorable scene. Plus, since Prisoner of Azkaban feels very different from the other films, it makes sense that its ending would follow suit.

3 Chamber Of Secrets

This ending scene is filled with the comfort and joy that is characteristic of the early Harry Potter. The moment just feels like a triumph all around. Everyone is safe from Tom Riddle, exams are canceled, Hermione returns after being petrified, and Hagrid is cleared of all charges. The entire school celebrates, and considering what a loveable character Hagrid is, it’s wonderful to see him being appreciated. Like Harry says, it’s not Hogwarts without Hagrid.

The ending is incredibly emotional and it evokes an intense sense of nostalgia, especially with the film’s bombastic soundtrack playing as the camera swoops out to one last final shot of Hogwarts.

2 Deathly Hallows: Part 2

This epilogue is not going to be forgotten any time soon. Audiences are taken back to King’s Cross with a grown-up Golden Trio, who watch as their own children go off to Hogwarts together. Viewers even see how Harry named his children after Snape and Dumbledore, although some fans may disagree with these choices.

With the peacefulness that the scene provides, viewers really do get the feeling that “All was well,” just like in the books. This was one of the things perfectly adapted from the Harry Potter books. And ultimately, the finale leaves the audience happy, despite also being sad that the franchise has ended. It’s a perfectly bittersweet moment.

1 Philosopher’s Stone

This ending scene is incredibly heartfelt, and not just because Harry gets to see photos of his parents. As Hagrid says goodbye to the Golden Trio and the Hogwarts Express heads back to King’s Cross, they lament how it’s going to be weird going home. But Harry, now considering Hogwarts his home, says the iconic line, “I’m not going home. Not really.”

The train pulls away in a beautiful shot, and the classic Harry Potter theme music plays. It ends the film on an incredibly high note, and it leaves the audience with happy tears in their eyes. This scene definitely showed that this film franchise was going to be one for the ages.
