How Undisputed 5 Could Be The Avengers Endgame Of The Series

The return of Yuri Boyka in Undisputed 5, as proposed by one filmmaker, could by the franchise’s equivalent to Avengers: Endgame. The series officially got started in 2002 with the Wesley Snipes and Ving Rhames-led boxing movie, but the Undisputed franchise really took off a few years later with the 2007 straight-to-video sequel Undisputed 2: Last Man Standing. Switching from boxing to MMA, the movie saw Michael Jai White take on Rhames’ role of George “Iceman” Chambers, with Scott Adkins portraying the antagonist Yuri Boyka aka The Most Complete Fighter in the World.

Undisputed 2 set the series on fire, and was the first major break for Scott Adkins, who swiftly became a rising action hero, Adkins now being a fully mainstream one today. Adkins returned as Boyka in the sequels Undisputed 3: Redemption and Boyka: Undisputed in 2010 and 2017, and despite talk of a TV series continuation, the franchise hasn’t moved further since then. However, if writer-director Liam O’Donnell has his way, that could not only change, but be the biggest event ever in the Undisputed franchise.

O’Donnell teased on Twitter that he’s penned a twelve-page treatment for Undisputed 5, with his preceding tweet hinting at the return of Wesley Snipes as Munroe Hutchen from the original Undisputed. O’Donnell did emphasize that this was merely a fun exercise on his part, so it shouldn’t be taken to mean that Undisputed 5 is headed into pre-production right now. Still, his comment of “Maybe one day?” is sure to be a thought-provoking one for Undisputed fans for what his concept for the fifth entry could be.

With O’Donnell hinting to Munroe Hutchen returning in Undisputed 5, this could allude to an ensemble the likes of which the Undisputed series has never seen. Scott Adkins returning as Boyka would be a given in any Undisputed movie now, while Michael Jai White returning as Chambers is something that’s always been a smart move for Undisputed 5. O’Donnell alluding to Monroe Hutchen coming back to the series for the first time since 2002 indicates his treatment is a far-reaching one and could involve a return by the heaviest hitters of the whole series.

Boyka, Chambers, and Hutchen in Undisputed 5 would be quite the legacy sequel. However, other major characters like Dolor (Marko Zaror), Turbo (Mykel Shannon Jenkins), and Russian mob boss Gaga (Hristo Shopov) also returning would be the Undisputed movie to end all Undisputed movies, and O’Donnell’s hint to Hutchen could indicate his treatment is reaching as far back into the series’ past as it possibly can. In effect, any major Undisputed character could potentially be game to come back.

O’Donnell himself has experience in reviving franchises, having written the 2010 sci-fi movie Skyline and subsequently getting the Skyline series flying into orbit as writer and director of its two sequels, Beyond Skyline and Skylines. O’Donnell’s concept for his as-yet unmade film The Last Savage is also said to combine gladiatorial elements with Indonesian martial arts, so he clearly knows how to pen an action movie. Meanwhile, O’Donnell’s idea for Undisputed 5 could be the biggest rodeo the franchise has ever seen with Boyka meeting old enemies and allies again for the biggest showdown he’s ever had. For the Undisputed series to get back into the ring again, Liam O’Donnell’s idea for Undisputed 5 could be the ideal way for it to go, Scott Adkins’ ever-prepared Boyka getting back into action in a fight he’s truly never faced.
