Scott Adkins will appear in the upcoming John Wick: Chapter 4, and with the acclaim Adkins has earned throughout his career, the film would benefit immensely by having him portray an antagonist. Since the series’ inception with the original John Wick in 2014, it’s steadily risen in mainstream adoration, with a blend of gun-fu and balletic martial arts that’s had a huge impact on the entire genre. As one of the most respected martial artists in contemporary action films, Scott Adkins joining the fourth John Wick has led to heavy speculation about what his role will be alongside his fellow action stars joining the film, Donnie Yen, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Marko Zaror.

It’s still largely unrevealed what the quartet’s respective roles in the film are, though Yen’s character is said to be an old friend of John’s, while Zaror’s is reportedly one of his principal enemies (and could be quite a unique villain for John Wick). When it comes to Adkins, he’s shown his versatility as an actor throughout his career, running the spectrum of a clean-cut heroic interstellar pilot in The Intergalactic Adventures of Max Cloud to a villainous drill sergeant in Ip Man 4: The Finale. That said, Chapter 4 could quite possibly utilize his talents to their fullest as an enemy of John Wick.

Adkins’ staple role as Yuri Bokya in the Undisputed movies established his particular skill at embodying edgier anti-heroes, and he’s very much at home portraying darker characters. However, when he’s played characters with all traces of human altruism stripped away, Adkins has really flexed what he can bring to a villain performance, such as the ferociously aggressive Collins in Triple Threat and Barton Geddes in the aforementioned Ip Man 4.

Having Adkins as an enemy of the always unpredictable John Wick would enable him to showcase his talent for not just morally grey but outright villainous characters like never before. Naturally, his abilities as a martial artist are also bound to play heavily into Chapter 4, as is the case for the martial artists joining him in the movie. This also sets up another very enticing reason for Adkins to portray one of the movie’s antagonists.

The news of Adkins, Yen, Sanada, and Zaror boarding John Wick: Chapter 4 has doubtlessly left moviegoers around the world relishing the thought of each getting a shot a battling Baba Yaga. John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum had its own roster of martial arts kings brought into challenge John, including Tiger Chen, Mark Dacascos, Yayan Ruhian, and Cecep Arif Rahman, and as soon as Chapter 4’s own round-up began with Donnie Yen, expectations were sent soaring for its action scenes.
