Pokemon GO has players hunting ghosts and fall-favorites alike this season, with the introduction of Pokemon like Deerling and Sawsbuck marking the arrival of autumn. With Halloween just around the corner too, Niantic is now giving particular attention to all of Pokemon’s spookiest creatures as well.
Niantic is giving Pokemon GO Trainers the opportunity to complete Special Timed Research pertaining to Mega Gengar, Timed Research spotlighting Drifblim, and a set of Special Research focusing on Halloween in general. The three collections of research offer players the chance to collect countless Ghost-type Pokemon, and those who’ve already started completing tasks may be experiencing a sort of déjà vu.
Players who’ve experienced a previous Pokemon GO Halloween may remember some of these numbers from quests past, but even newer players will find themselves recognizing a familiar set of numbers as they work through the game’s ghostly tasks. Some of the numbers, like “13,” are more obvious associations to bad luck and the general spooky season, but others, like “108,” may seem more cryptic. Nonetheless, players who pay close attention will quickly realize that these numbers, and more, are featured repeatedly throughout the gamut of Pokemon GO’s Halloween and Ghost-type events.
One Redditor, and clearly dedicated Pokemon fan, has posted a simple overview of these mysterious numbers, reminding gamers that each of them bears a particular weight in Pokemon’s ghostly realms. The numbers in question seem to be: 13, 34, 49, 94, and 108. “13” and “94” appear in the Mega Gengar Timed Research, while “34,” “49,” and “108” find their ways into the “A Spooky Message Unmasked” Special Research. Those wondering if they were alone in constantly seeing these numbers can now rest assured, it’s simply a neat Halloween celebration on the developers’ ends. Of course, the numbers don’t indicate any sort of tangible bonuses or rewards, but it’s delightful to see Pokemon GO celebrate the roots of its otherworldly creatures. With Latin American Pokemon Trainers getting an official “Dia de los Muertos” event too, it’s safe to say that Niantic’s leaning into Halloween and the fall season this year.
