Serbian indie developer Pet Project Games has revealed a brand-new gameplay trailer for Ripout, a sci-fi co-op horror FPS with some serious Dead Space vibes.

Powered by Unreal Engine, Ripout will send players into the dark space of the year 2084, full of derelict ships and abandoned bases. In the game’s universe, humanity is amid a devastating war against an alien race. The genetically altered beings come in all shapes and sizes, capable of reconfiguring their bodies in seconds, posing an ever-changing, adaptable threat – think of even more twisted necromorphs from the Dead Space series, who have the ability to merge with bio and tech.

Ripout’s key feature is total procedural generation, not only for mutants you fight but for the environment around you. The ships and facilities you’ll explore will never be the same. The game’s short 10-20-minute missions are intended as a convenient basis for another PvE session with up to four-player co-op, where team play comes first.

Another thing to remember is Ripout’s scaling difficulty, which will allow you to enjoy the game solo and won’t be an easy walk for a full team of skilled players. And there will be a hub ship, where you can take a breath and play some arcade minigames from the 80s.

It would be a mistake to think of Ripout as a run and gun game, as there’s some tactical depth too. You can collect loot and resources to adjust the weapon and character abilities, choosing between multiple specializations. As shown by the recent trailer, you can even grab an alien hand and use it in combat. Isaac Clarke will certainly approve.

Another invaluable addition is a trusty living Pet Gun companion, which can be life-saving when you suddenly run out of bullets. Just let your pet hit your target and absorb advanced tech from downed mutants, providing you with shield, plasma, or teleportation upgrades.

Ripout will be coming to PC on Steam and Epic Games Store on 1 February 2022, and those interested can already add the project to your wishlist.

If you’re more interested in the upcoming Dead Space remake, there’s a good chance you’ll be able to relive the horror again at the end of 2022. The game is expected to be quite different from the original, as the creators plan to cut some elements that didn’t quite work before.
