Samsung has a new MicroLED television promising a brighter, sharper image with a wide-color range. This advanced technology is just beginning to make its way to TVs, though Samsung has made MicroLED before. ‘The Wall’ is a modular TV that required professional installation and was released in 2018 in sizes up to 292 inches. With this new version, MicroLED could become slightly more mainstream, considering the 110-inch screen is more likely to fit inside a home or office.

MicroLED offers unique advantages over LCD displays, since LEDs create their own light. LCD displays require backlighting which means generating enough brightness while maintaining good black levels is a challenge. OLED is closer to MicroLED technology, but uses organic components that decay over time, leading to issues such as burn-in or inconsistent colors and brightness. Being an organic light-emitting diode, MicroLED offers the best of both and is also among the most power-efficient. In the near future, it is likely this will begin to overtake other display technologies, but in the meantime it’s a matter of refining the manufacturing process and Samsung seems to have made great progress on that front.

Samsung has now unveiled its 110-inch MicroLED Smart TV that’s due to become available globally in the first quarter of 2021. The headline feature is the display technology, which should deliver the very best picture available. It covers 100-percent of the DCI and Adobe RGB color gamuts, meaning it can display a wider range of colors than standard TVs. Full specifications are not yet available, but brightness should be among the best available and blacks should be near perfect, since there is no need for backlighting with LED technology. The TV has a 4K resolution and is nearly bezel-less with the display accounting for 99.99-percent of the front panel.

Closer Look At Samsung’s New Wall TV

The new 110-inch MicroLED TV includes what Samsung calls a ‘Micro AI Processor’ that processes content to provide bright and vivid quality optimized for each scene. Samsung claims its ‘Majestic Sound System’ offers immersive 5.1 channel sound without the need for an external speaker. Further enhancing the surround sound experience, ‘Object Tracking Sound Pro’ identifies on-screen motion and adjusts sound position to match. If done well this could enhance movies that do not include surround sound. Samsung gave an example of an action movie with an airplane flying over and the sound of the engine roar shifting overhead to match.

The new system includes the very latest and best technology from Samsung, so this is a smart TV. It adds a new ability to split the screen four-ways, with each sub-display measuring up to 55 inches in size. That also gives some additional perspective on just how massive this new TV is. Samsung does not list the price and availability, but those interested can expect to hear more about Samsung’s new 110-inch MicroLED 4K smart TV early next year.
