The most significant new feature in Pokémon Sword and Shield is the introduction of Dynamix transformations. Similar to Mega Evolutions in Pokémon X and Y, this ability allows Pokémon in the Galar region to grow to Godzilla-sized monsters. The catch is that they can only be done in certain areas, like Gym Battles and Max Raids, and they only last three turns.

Adding to this latest gimmick are various Pokémon that have their unique metamorphosis when they Dynamax evolve called Gigantamax. After searching far and wide to understand the power that’s inside these Pokémon, here are ten of our favorite Gigantamax forms. If you have a favorite Pokémon with a Gigantamax design, leave it below in the comment section.

10 Copperajah

Kicking off this list is one of the many new Pokémon that Sword and Shield introduced. Copperjah is the elephant Pokémon you don’t want to mess with. Not only is its skin waterproof, but its trunk can crush even the most durable steel in the world. When transformed into its Gigantamax form, this Pokémon becomes Bipedal, as it’s front legs shrink. What makes this Gigantamax so great is that its trunk now has buzz saws on it and yellow eyes. You don’t want to put your finger near that things trunk.

9 Drednaw

Drednaw is known for its powerful jaw. Not only can it increase the strength of biting moves, like Bite and Crunch, it’s signature move, Jaw Break, can prevent a Pokémon from leaving the battle. In its Gigantamax form, Drednaw’s head is slightly concealed and now walks on its hind legs.

This gigantic appearance makes him look like Gamera if he had a blue twin brother. He may not fly around like Japan’s favorite turtle monster, but he sure looks intimidating with those red eyes he gains.

8 Grimmsnarl

Top 10 Pokémon with the best Gigantamax forms

Remember that last Shakespearian/flamboyant villain from the previous anime you watched? He probably looked something like Grimmsnarl in his Gigantamax form. By losing some of the weight it put on from evolving, Gigantamax Grimmsnarl stands up straight and proper, now with a much more demonic-looking head, as it uses its Dark powers to defeat its foes. If anything, Grimmsnarl looks more like something you’d see in Digimon than Pokémon. Maybe someone at Gamefreak was secretly working on a new Digimon game, and this design was slipped in by mistake? Who knows, it just looks incredible.

7 Machamp

Machamp was already one of the strongest fighting Pokémon in the series, but it’s upped its game with this Gigantamax transformation. While Machamp doesn’t gain any additional arms, its fists are now orange with veins across its forearms. Machamp now has yellow eyes and is now wearing black leather pants! It took this guy over twenty years, but Machamp finally learned to stop walking around in its underwear, and we couldn’t be any more proud of the old lug. Here’s hoping his next evolution will let him get massive pecks.

6 Coalossal

Top 10 Pokémon with the best Gigantamax forms

Coalossal is one of the more exciting Pokémon introduced in Sword and Shield. After evolving from a Rock with a Wheel and a coal mining cart, it has a much more Godzilla-like appearance to it, with additional coal piled on its back.

When transforming, Coalossal begins to resemble an active Volcano, with Lava spewing out of it. That alone makes this one of the best Gigantamax forms, but it also gets some bad-ass spikes, and its lower half looks like a furnace. You don’t want to be near this guy, as he’ll melt everything around him without even knowing or caring who dies from its extreme heat.

5 Centiskorch

Top 10 Pokémon with the best Gigantamax forms

Centiskorch was an already hot Pokémon, but its Gigantamax form makes it even hotter than it was before. Centiskroch’s Gigantamax design looks less like a bug and more like a mystical dragon from Asian tales. If Cri-kee and Mushu from Mulan had a love child, this would probably be what that kid would look like. According to the Pokédex, not only is Centiskorch’s flames over 1,800 degrees but it “may destabilize air currents” and change the weather around it. The Pokémon world must not suffer from climate change cause they’d be dead if a few Gigantamax Centiskorchs were roaming the earth.

4 Kingler

While the new Pokémon and their Gigantamax transformations are all fantastic and unique, a lot of our favorite Gigantamax forms come from our old friends from the Kanto region. Kingler was already a favorite in the hearts of many, especially after seeing Ash’s in the Kanto Pokémon League. While Kingler has the name of Royalty, it’s Gigantamax form can match its appearance. Kingler now has a sweet looking mustache/beard combo that makes us remember kings of our favorite Saturday morning cartoons. But it doesn’t stop there, as Kingler’s arms and legs are longer with spikes. Its famous Claws now have crushers, making an already strong Pokemon even more potent than it was before.

3 Pikachu

Pikachu has lost a lot of weight in the past 20 years. Before he skimmed down, Pikachu was a chubby little guy with a belly you want to tickle. Well, fat is the new hot, as fat Pikachu has made a comeback in Sword and Shield with Gigantamax Pikachu.

Along with his gained weight, Gigantamax Pikachu’s tail is much longer than it was before, looking even more like a thunderbolt. The only way to get this OG design is by having saved data from Let’s Go Pikachu.

2 Butterfree

Top 10 Pokémon with the best Gigantamax forms

Going back to the classic movie monsters for this love bug, Butterfree will instantly make anyone think of Mothra. The massive wings alone will remind people of the good girl from the Godzilla franchise, but what makes Butterfree stand out from her counterpart are the large antenna’s that it gains. You’ll still want to go and hug it, but that won’t be a smart move, as it can create tornados that can push 10-ton trucks and secretes poison from its wings.

1 Charizard

Just look at Charizard. Look at him. He’s a fire breathing dragon. Everyone likes dragons. They’re some of the coolest creatures in the world. How do you make that even more awesome? Set that boy on FIRE! Just look at his fiery wings and tail. Gander at its sharp claws and head. It’s amazing. How can you not like this design? Look, we all love Blastoise and Venusaur and wish they had Gigantamax forms, but look at Charizard. He. Is. AWESOME! Sure, it’s not a drastic change from his previous design, but sometimes simple is the best approach if you want to be as amazing as our old friend.
