10 “Perhaps I Treated You Too Harshly”

When the Avengers confronted Thanos to get the Infinity Stones, they didn’t believe him when he told them he destroyed them. However, Nebula came to his defense, saying that he may be a lot of things, but he wasn’t a liar. Thanos thanked her and said, “Perhaps I treated you too harshly”, admitting that it was one of his many mistakes.

This has often been used as a meme for when people learn that someone they’ve been criticizing is not as bad as they might’ve thought. Or it could be used as a joke, like if someone received a treat from a friend even though they teased them earlier.

9 “Get This Man A Shield”

When the Avengers were preparing for Thanos’s attack in Avengers: Infinity War, Black Panther had to make sure Wakanda was ready. As they were gearing up for battle, he noticed Captain America didn’t have his shield, so he told his fellow soldiers to “Get this man a shield.”

This moment further cemented Captain America and Black Panther’s friendship, but it was also useful in giving fans a new meme. The moment has since been used whenever someone is in need of something. If someone says they’re hungry, this meme might be used with the text altered to be “Get this man some food,” or something similar.

8 “I Don’t Feel So Good”

The ending of Infinity War was one of the saddest in any Marvel movie. Fans watched some of their most beloved characters turn to dust and float away. A particularly sad moment is when Iron Man watches this happen to Spider-Man. As Peter realizes what’s happening to him, he begins to cry, delivering one of the best quotes of the movie: “I don’t feel so good.”

Even though this was a sad moment, fans found the humor in it and made it into a meme. For example, someone could edit an image of a character and make them dissipate into pixels, with the caption being, “I don’t feel so good.” It’s always nice how MCU fans are able to comfort each other, even in moments of sadness.

When the Avengers traveled through time in Avengers: Endgame, they were eventually found out by the present Nebula connecting with the past version. Once Thanos found out what was happening, he could only say “impossible.” This one word would make this moment one of the most meme’d out of all the MCU.

This meme is used simply as a reply for when something is hard to believe. It could also be used as a punchline to a joke, with the text before it saying something like, “When you see penguins flying, but they don’t have their seatbelts on.” This single quote from Thanos opens up a gateway of possibilities for memes.

6 “Now That Is An Avengers-Level Threat!”

In Spider-Man: Far From Home, one of Mysterio’s traits that was carried over from the comics is his inflated ego. He wants everyone to see him taking on the biggest and strongest of villains. So when he set something up that actually looked powerful, he exclaimed, “Now that is an Avengers-level threat.”

This scene is used as a meme for when something stronger comes along, or playfully joking about how things are just now getting serious. For example, if someone found out a joke villain would be in a new superhero movie, they may respond with this scene as a meme.

In Thor: Ragnarok, Thor had to face yet another murderous sibling in the form of Hela. During their final battle, it looks like all is lost, as Hela says, “You can’t defeat me”. Thor admits she’s right, and says, “I know, but he can.” That’s when Surtur bursts out, ready to destroy Hela alongside Asgard.

This meme is normally used when an unexpected hero pops up to save the day. It may be used to reference scenes in recent movies or television, as well as reference something similar in current events.

4 “So You Got Detention”

It was a treat for fans to see Captain America in Spider-Man: Homecoming, especially in the form of educational videos. During the movie, Peter gets detention, and he has to watch one of the videos. At the start of the video, Cap turns a chair around, sits on it, and says to the camera, “So you got detention?”

Jokes about Drax being invisible are still pretty common to this day. For example, if there were a picture of an empty action figure package, someone may joke that they got a toy of Drax.

2 “Don’t Give Me Hope”

When Hawkeye lost everything to Thanos in Endgame, he went through one of his biggest changes and became Ronin. As a new vigilante, he began exacting his own vengeance on criminals. Black Widow then found him and told him that he didn’t have to do that anymore because they could bring his family back. That’s when he told her, “Don’t do that. Don’t give me hope.”

This moment has been used as a meme for whenever someone promises something that sounds too good to be true. Like Hawkeye, the people using the meme don’t want to believe something that could potentially fall through.

1 “I Understood That Reference”

When Captain America first resurfaced from the ice, he naturally wasn’t caught up on the latest pop culture. Throughout The Avengers, everyone was making references he didn’t get. It wasn’t until Nick Fury made a reference to The Wizard of Oz that Cap was finally able to say, “I understood that reference.”

Now, when someone makes a reference to pop culture or anything else, it’s usually followed with a gif or image of this moment. In trying to learn more about references, Cap ultimately became a big one himself.
