10 Pokémon Goh Caught In The Anime That Wouldve Been Perfect For Ash

Ash’s team in the Pokémon Journeys series of the anime is already stacked, with great type coverage across the board in Pikachu, Dragonite, Lucario, Gengar, Sirfetch’d, and Dracovish. But given that his traveling partner is trying to catch as many Pokémon as possible, there are bound to be some of Goh’s Pokémon that could have potentially benefited Ash’s team in some way or offered alternative team dynamics.

Goh does catch some Pokémon that Ash caught in previous seasons of the anime but those Pokémon, such as Heracross, can’t really be considered in these circumstances. The point is that Goh is catching so many Pokémon that it peaks the imagination and intrigues whether these Pokémon would be good partners for Ash to have.

10 Catching A Nidoran Of Either Gender Would Have Eventually Given Ash A Heavy-Hitting Team Member

While the prospect of catching Nidoran, male or female, isn’t necessarily the most exciting thought for potential additions to one of Ash’s strongest teams to date, their final evolution forms, Nidoqueen and Nidoking, would certainly bring their strength and dual Poison-Ground type to the team.

Poison is technically covered by Gengar on Ash’s team, but in the anime, the spooky Pokémon is focused on more for its Ghost-type moves and characteristics. Although they are presented as such in the anime, Nidoqueen and Nidoking are known to be able to learn at least one move of every single type in the games, makes them great utility additions to any team.

9 Beyond The Crying, Sobble Would Have Given Ash A Dependable Water-Type In Inteleon

In the Pokémon Sword & Shield games, Sobble’s final evolution form, Inteleon is a strong Pokémon that excels in water-based offense. Although Goh’s Sobble has yet to reach those heights in Pokémon Journeys, the potential is still there regardless. As for where it would fit on Ash’s team, it would arguably have to replace Dracovish, which is a dual Water-Dragon type.

Dracovish arguably offers better coverage to the overall team, but having Sobble on Ash’s team would help keep a main part of his identity from previous seasons, using one of the new region’s starter Pokémon. Not to mention, this would eventually give him a strong and capable pure Water-type combatant.

8 Absol Would Have Been A Loyal & Dependable Partner

Known as the disaster Pokémon and being a Dark-type, Absol has an unjustifiably bad reputation within the Pokémon universe. The reality is that Absol actually tries to warn people of incoming disasters and is especially known to protect fields from natural disasters. This show of heart and responsibility would inevitably turn Absol into a loyal partner for Ash.

Another example of a Pokémon that can learn multiple moves of varying types in the games, Absol would not only bring versatility to the team but also its speed and prowess in physical attacking.

7 Aerodactyl’s Ferocity Would Add More Intensity To Ash’s Battling

While Ash already has a flying dragon his team in the form of Dragonite, Aerodactyl would only bring duplicate Flying-type to the team as its other typing is actually Rock. As a Flying and Rock-type with Dragon-type characteristics that can learn a variety of different moves, Aerodactyl would in fact be a perfect addition to the team, without having to replace Dragonite.

Its erratic and aggressive behavior is not necessarily something that Ash would be prepared to handle, but if focused and honed in a battling sense, it could prove to be a valuable member of team. This could be a game-changer, especially considering Ash’s goals of battling and defeating the Pokémon Monarch, Leon.

6 Cinderace’s Blistering Hot Offense Would Be Invaluable To Any Team

Pokémon Journeys is the first series throughout all of Ash’s many adventures, where Ash doesn’t have a Fire-type Pokémon as a part of his team. Not only would catching a Scorbunny solve this, but it would eventually leave Ash with a Cinderace, whose powerful Pyro Ball is one of the most devastating and effective Fire-type moves in the entire anime.

That being said, Ash is finally building a team that resembles a champion-worthy trainer, not relying on the standard types. This doesn’t mean that Scorbunny and eventually Cinderace would not still be a crucial and invaluable addition, however.

5 Catching A Grookey Would Eventually Bring Forth The Power Of Rillaboom

In a similar vein to Scorbunny, Grookey is a starter Pokémon from the Galar region, albeit a Grass-type, that would usually be one of the first names on Ash’s team sheet in any other region.

Despite still being just a Grass-type with no dual typing in its final evolutionary form, Rillaboom, it would still be a strong Galar-based addition to the team with Gigantamax possibilities. This wouldn’t exactly help it when battling Leon and his Gigantamax Charizard because of the glaringly obvious type disadvantage, but against most other trainers, it would certainly be a useful ally for Ash to have.

4 Scizor’s Speed & Heavy Physical Strikes Would Be A Useful Addition

Despite the fact that Ash already has a Steel-type physical attacker on his team in the form of Lucario, Scizor would not necessarily need to replace Lucario, as it brings its own spin on a Fighting-style Pokémon, with strong Bug and Flying-type moves.

Scizor specializes in physical offense and defense, but with the possibility of boosting its speed and evasiveness with Agility and Double Team respectively, its overall capabilities could be increased and improved considerably. Ash arguably should have caught a Scyther at an earlier point of his Pokémon journey but he could certainly make up for it by getting hold of a Scizor.

3 Darmanitan’s Unique Forms & Type Combinations Would Bring A Different Dimension To The Team

10 Pokémon Goh Caught In The Anime That Wouldve Been Perfect For Ash

When Goh caught his Darmanitan, it was in its pure Fire-type form, which in itself would be a good addition to Ash’s team that lacks firepower — literally. However, Darmanitan is also capable of going into Zen mode, which makes it dual Fire-Psychic type, another type that isn’t featured on Ash’s team in Pokémon Journeys.

Another thing about Darmanitan is that it actually has a Galarian regional variant, which is Ice-type and dual Ice-Fire type in its Zen form. Regardless of which form of Darmanitan Ash obtained, it would offer good balance and coverage to the team at the very least.

2 Suicune Is A Legendary Dog That Should Never Be Overlooked

10 Pokémon Goh Caught In The Anime That Wouldve Been Perfect For Ash

Suicune is a Pokémon that Ash should arguably have already caught in previous meetings, but for whatever reasons he always seemed to stop himself from catching one. Although Goh only caught his to protect it from Pokémon hunters, he still managed to gain its trust, resulting in it wanting to stay with him.

Regardless of whether Ash now realizes that he should have committed to catching the Legendary Dog Pokémon when he had the chance, Suicune being on his team would have made his collection from the Pokémon Journeys series look even more impressive. Not to mention that it would be the perfect addition in terms of dealing with Leon’s Charizard.

1 Flygon’s Versatility & Move Coverage Would Make Ash’s Team Even Better

Flygon looks like it should be a Flying-type Pokémon but hitting it with an Electric move would prove unsuccessful as, despite its wings, it is a dual Ground and Dragon-type. However, it is capable of learning Flying, Fire, and Dark-type moves, giving it decent coverage.

With its significant speed and well-spread-out other stats across the board, Flygon is a perfect addition to any team in the games, and in turn, would be a useful addition to Ash’s team in the anime. Its effectiveness in sandstorms and harsh conditions would help Ash immeasurably in situations beyond just regimented gym and championship battles.
